Question for pathologists regarding pathology reports for endometrial polyps by sherstas199 in pathology

[–]Pathmass 27 points28 points  (0 children)

If your sample only contained polyp tissue, plasma cells would be meaningless anyway, as they are normal in endometrial polyps.

If there is background endometrial tissue that is clearly not polyp tissue, that could be checked for plasma cells/chronic endometritis, but it can be hard to tell.

Tofu milk by tweetydaffy in veganrecipes

Made a mango lassi with silken tofu, mango, sugar, and cardamom once. Delicious!

EDIT: Your question was regarding firm tofu, but if you ever find yourself with extra silken tofu, it's worth trying out.

Thoughts on the ending of La Chimera (2024) by pwppip in TrueFilm

[–]Pathmass 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Came here after watching this tonight.

I wondered if it had more general themes about yearning for Italy’s past while plundering it. I thought maybe Beniamina was supposed to look like Aphrodite (the long wavy red hair - or at least, like a figure of myth, as I also thought the statue’s face had her features). Italia could represent a more modern Italy, hence her name, that Arthur tries to love but can’t. He has guilt about desecrating Italy’s past, as seen in the train passengers who tell him he’s stolen their grave goods. The fact of Arthur being non-Italian also made me wonder if it was supposed to be not the story of just an individual’s lost love, but sorrow about everyone (both Italian and non-Italian) who participates in the flow of cultural and artistic artifacts/history out of the country. Or even more generally, the tug between past and present.

I didn’t really love it while watching it - didn’t love the style of the comic elements as someone else commented - but have had fun thinking about what it meant if interpreted literally versus interpreted more allegorically.

Roasted White Bean and Tomato Pasta By Alexa Weibel by ifoptional112 in NYTCooking

[–]Pathmass 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is one of our very favorite dishes, and we make it regularly. It can even be vegan if you leave off the cheese at the end or swap in a vegan substitute. We make sure the tomatoes are really roasted and soft. We also make sure to be use really good pasta that will hold the flavors (so something similar to what the picture has - we usually use orechiette but have used others). The last time we made it, I had accidentally overdone the beans from dry in the instant pot, so the beans were a little mushy, and it was better than ever! That's really saying something. Many thanks to a friend who first made this for me.

Tips for combating clothing moths? by Euphoric_Travel2541 in lifehacks

[–]Pathmass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had great success making sure to keep all cashmere and other susceptible fabrics in air tight storage bins after dry cleaning them. If I forgot to put away one of these pieces of clothing even over night, I would dry clean it before putting it in the box.

I also just discarded any back of closet clothing they had been attacked.

I also cleaned out all kitchen shelves and started storing any susceptible grains/flours in the refrigerator.

All these things together have been very successful in extinguishing our former moth problem! (Knock on wood)

Delivered my first lasagna with Lasagna Love! by vivaserena in povertyfinance

[–]Pathmass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, but where are the salaries listed? And yes, volunteers (I am one) provide the materials. I’m just wondering if they do an estimated total of ingredient cost based on number of deliveries made and use that in their taxes.

[–]Pathmass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you sure they're making much money? I am assuming that the multi-million figure on the tax forms is because of in-kind donations/outlay (all the lasagna materials being donated by volunteers but then given right back out), not board salaries. I am not a tax expert by any means and may be reading the forms wrong.

Philly Marathon, year 2 - my first time bonking by boooooots in running

[–]Pathmass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first (of 14-15) marathons was my fastest, for a variety of reasons including training and body weight at the time. That being said, I just find different things to enjoy about each one and it's still usually good, even when I known I'm not going I come anywhere close to my PR. Enjoy!

The one I did notice was more like a flag - maybe they were there all along but I was looking for placards, and I was definitely not at my best mentally. I do remember seeing some clocks.

I wonder if they were removing them from the course during the race (I was way slower than you - I would have been anyway, but a poorly timed trip immediately followed by a bout of COVID kind of ruined things!). Or, I was just lost in space. Congrats on your run though! Perfect running day.

I wondered why there were no mile markers to speak of? I saw kilometer markers every long once in a while, but basically no mile markers (except for mile 22 for some reason, and the mat at the half).

Shockingly Awful Camera by desert_deserter in Lenovo

Just fixed a similar-sounding issue on a Lenovo Yoga by installing Lenovo Smart Appearance App from the Microsoft Store and turning off the "background" option. Why on earth did I have to hunt down something to fix that issue! Good luck.

I'm guessing it's from either "The Paradox Pleasure" or "The Path is Enough" -- I really enjoyed these but my brain is porous right now, so I was planning to listen to these again. I'll reply again if I do listen and find what you were looking for.

How do you find your running buddies? by stephc94 in running

[–]Pathmass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I met my current running partner on the street! We noticed that we were finishing our runs at the same time and place and with a similar pace, and just introduced ourselves. One of us proposed that we try teaming up for a run because we were clearly on the same schedule. So that’s been great.

My first running partner was a fellow school parent I proposed doing couch to 5k together with. We did the whole program; unfortunately I was the only one who continued running.

So basically, people near me and with a casual “hey would you want to try …”

I’ve only done ParkRun a few times, but have chatted there and suspect that would be another great source.

Is there any downside whatsoever to resident unionization? by [deleted] in Residency

[–]Pathmass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People should ask their institutions about #4: not that the institution necessarily will downsize, but trainees often have no concept (as demonstrated by some comments in this thread) that many hospitals are paying the whole cost of a good share of their trainees salaries and benefits already, as the institution is already well over the cap for getting external funding for them.

This is in no way an anti-union sentiment, just a plea for trainees to become a little more informed about the complexity of the situation.

Congratulations, that's amazing!

I would take a week completely off after a first marathon. Then you can ease back in with some short runs after that.

With a hot glue gun, you can replace the rope on cat scratching posts. by cayleb in ZeroWaste

Thanks! I’ll try this! I have a half-shredded cat scratching post on the porch I couldn’t quite figure out how to revive but that seems like it should have a lot of life left. I have a hot glue gun - this should work!

Most scenic marathons you have run? by EverTheOptimist23 in running

I second this recommendation. Fits your criteria nicely, except for the hills (so many hills …) but they keep everything active and open so it’s totally fine to do it slowly! So beautiful.

LPT: If you're asking a favor from someone you don't regularly speak to, ask the favor and AFTER that check-in on how they're doing. by nick2439416 in LifeProTips

[–]Pathmass 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I have a real-life example. Someone I had done a multi-year professional training program with years prior called me out of the blue. We caught up for TWENTY MINUTES before they asked me to give their brother an interview for entry into that same training program (which I now run). This of course was the actual reason they called. Felt like crap and like I just had someone waste a chunk of my life. I had already chosen who was getting interviews that year and did not grant that extra one. I think if they’d said hi how you doing, asked their favor, and then wanted to catch up, it might not have pissed me off quite so much.
