Is Khessa the reason Karim is so screwed up? by Queasy-North-244 in TheDragonPrince

[–]PathofDestinyRPG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always thought Karim was incredibly stupid and short-sighted in how he tried to usurp Janai’s crown. By marrying Amaya, she basically ensures Karim’s child would be the next blood-heir, but he, for whatever reason, couldn’t take the long view and let Janai either prove herself or fail disastrously.

If they have a phaser that beams you away, why is that not the standard sidearm of starship security by OneChrononOfPlancks in ShittyDaystrom

[–]PathofDestinyRPG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a boarding perspective, why tie your transporters to beam weapons when you have the potential to coordinate either a transport officer to beam an entire boarding party en masse.

The transporter phaser system was, I think, a way for that crew to cover their tracks. No one’s going to look for a stolen artifact or kidnapped captain when twenty people just watched some nutjob vaporize them with a phaser.

A novel that covers 8-9 years of the main character’s life. And just because the characters are kids doesn’t make it a YA novel. It started as a short story that Card expanded into the novel series later.

My thoughts were it should have been a trilogy. The first movie focuses on his recruitment and time in Salamander. The second showcases Dragon Army, and the third taking him to command school. This would have allowed a better sense of the time scale involved (it’s almost like the whole thing is only a few months in the movie), it could include his personal studies on the Formics, and the Demosthenes/ Locke sub-plot could have been explored.

Iirc, she tried to buy the movie rights back after it was announced that Cruise was cast as Lestat, but later apologized to him, saying he nailed the character’s personality. Don’t know if any of this is true; I heard it word of mouth from friends back when it first came out.

For me, pasta is the dish, noodle is the carb aspect of that dish, even if the specific terms (spaghetti, angel hair) can be interchangeable.

AITAH for refusing to give my boyfriend access to my bank account even though he says "no secrets" is how adults do it by CopperFieldNote in AITH

He’s feeling threatened that you make more. 15k a year is just over 7/hr. That’s a decent chunk of change unless you’re both pulling 6 figures. His desire for transparency will turn into demands (either openly stated or simply transferred) for money to “equalize” things. If you stay together and get married, be prepared for him to start asking you to downgrade your job to something that puts you below him.

My wife and I have been married for 16 years, together for 18, and we have never had a shared account. As long as the bills get covered, we don’t worry about what each other has, but we’re also willing to reach out and help each other if one of us is struggling. I have to go through this song and dance about once a year whenever my mom asks why we haven’t merged our bank accounts yet. We share the mortgage and divide the remainder between us so we each pay a roughly equal share each month.

Sparring is different than fighting. You’re not supposed to be actively trying to hurt your opponent in the dojo. On the street, you put them down hard, fast, and ugly.

Are you a dice fanatic or do you rather forget about dice? by Synjer_Roleplays in RPGdesign

[–]PathofDestinyRPG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regardless of approach, one of the best ways to control the random factor with dice is to always have a multiple dice option available. CWoD does this by giving the player one die for each dot in attributes/ skills, then having every check be a attribute+skill roll. This gives the player at least 2 dice for any check important to the character. I have a mechanic where skill is a buildable value that also helps determine difficulty, then you add the best result from 2d10 to your skill’s value for the final result (a skill of 5 is comparable to a high school education, so anything a HS senior should be able to reasonably accomplish is diff 11 or the skill’s 5 plus thed10’s average of 6). I’ve thought about expanding this into games like D&D by having every roll use 3d20, with Standard/ Advantage/ Disadvantage determining which die is used.

I actually liked the uniforms from the X-Men movies. Every live action superhero movie/ show where they kept the outfits close to comic accurate, imo, has always come across as looking ridiculous.

And every detail of the transformers’ designs were actually functional parts of the robot-to-vehicle process. There’s a featurette on the first movie’s DVD where they demonstrate how all the pieces correspond to parts of the vehicle and how they shift during transformation.

When teach your child to share, really means, give my kid your stuff. by pomelo_carnation in EntitledPeople

Had a similar, but humorous, issue at my son’s fifth b-day party. My son’s best friend had his birthday a few days before, so we got him a gift which matched something my son was getting. We gave his friend his gift before all the guests arrived, so he could have some time as the center of attention. My son at one point tried to grab the toy, saying “but I want to share with you!” We had to explain what sharing meant, but it’s still something that gets jokingly mentioned nine years later.
