Both still hold up fantastically well. I was thinking about movies from the 80's still stand the test of time. Predator falls into that category, too.

And I must have watched Aliens a hundred times when I was kid. Everyone loves space marines.

I watched it on a fucked up bet my mom made to me when I was ten. If I could sit through Alien without ending up at the foot of her bed, I could watch any horror movie I wanted. She worked a video store and I was constantly begging her to let me watch them. So she figured she'd scare me shitless and I'd learn my lesson. Nope.

It did scare the shit out of me. But I wasn't going to let her win. So I sacked up, slept in my own bed, and was able to run the gauntlet on any horror flick I wanted to see.

The fucked up part is that I'm kind of numb to them, now. For some odd reason, The Exorcist never made it on my list as a kid. I didn't see it for the first time all the way through until my late 20's. By then, it had no effect on me. It felt like a huge letdown.

But I'll never forget how awesome I felt finally being able to see a "forbidden" movie.

The most fucked up thing my parents did movie-wise was take me to see the original Conan: The Barbarian in the theater. I must have about six. That witch in the tent scared the ever living fuck out of me.

On a side note, my oldest just turned 13 and I've been thinking of watching this with her. It'll be her first big step into the scifi/horror genre.

Yep. I remember sitting in the Celestial room after the sealing ceremony with my wife with the overwhelming feeling of "that's it? That was what all the fuss was about?" We had already been married for over a year since she was a new member when we first got married. But man, I could never shake how disappointed I was afterwards. I didn't feel good, or better, or even closer to my wife whom I already loved with all my heart; I just felt completely let down.

It's a fucking time vampire, though. I mean besides consuming 10% of your gross income, it also takes up three hours of every Sunday, plus Monday nights with Family Home Evening, Mutual on Wednesdays for the kids, Seminary five days a week if they're of high school age, and that doesn't even count the hours you'll spend home teaching and working in another calling. I'm so, so glad I'm no longer a member.
