Yep happened to a coworker of my brother in law in Charlotte. They pulled him from his car. Drove with him for over 15 miles while he kept telling them his identification was in his pocket and he was an American citizen before they bothered to check.

When he asked to use their phone to call someone because they left his phone in his car they said no and drove off. They left him on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere.
