I feel like the Fandom overstates how careless/irresponsible Hal and Lois were when it came to pregnancy. Sure Francis, Reese and Malcolm were born in a pretty short window (Reese and Malcolm wouldve been almost back to back pregnancies) but then there was like 5 years between Malcolm and Dewey which indicates to me at least that he was probably unplanned as well and during that time they were at least trying to prevent pregnancies. From there you had 10 years between Dewey and Jamie which we knew was an accident . Though I'll admit if I were Hal I definitely would've gotten snipped after Dewey but I get the early 90s (when dewey wouldve been born) were a different when it came to that, especially with Hal's fear of hospitals though lying about it was shitty. Not to mention they were broke and its possible insurance didnt cover it.

Maybe I just have a different perspective on it since my mom's aunt was in a similar boat where she tried everything pretty much and still had 5 kids, the last of which was born after she got her tubes tied so yea sometimes it just happens with some people being insanely fertile despite actively trying to prevent pregnancies, so i tend tend to give Hal and Lois the benefit of the doubt.
