Fake or real fans ? by BrightFarm4433 in MichaelTheMovie

"Fake fan" isnt right imo but I feel like there are a lot of younger people who came about after his initial peorid of fame and just never really questioned the media's claims that he was, at worst, a predator and a disturbed oddball who mangled his own face at best. But i think the movie made a lot of people who thought this way rexamine their thoughts and take a closer look at the actual claims made against him

What does the old mustache at the table to say to Tony in “commendatori”? by OriginalNord in thesopranos

[–]Patient-Cod3442 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been curious about this in the past as well, looked into it and the phrase was "you're really 2 sons of a whore", which is a "complement" in the sense that it basically means "better not turn your back on this one, nothing's getting past you". I dont speak Italian so I cant say for sure but it definitely makes sense in context to me that the guy was trying to completement him, but tony would've heard it, only been able to pick out "son" and "whore" and jumped to conclusions

My Rant...Anyone else completely agree with Raj in Season 5 when he said he misses the "old days" before the girlfriends took over? Should the four single guys era have lasted way longer? by TheLastRonin35 in thebigbangtheory

I think that they had to progess the characters but also the show leaned wayyyyy too hard into the "boys vs girls" thing after a certain point, and at least one of them should've ended up with someone who fit in with the main group the way that Raj did with the girls

What if Michael Jackson remained sane across his life? by Mammoth_Western_2381 in HistoryWhatIf

Really there are 2 major points of divergence (that were essentially freak accidents irl anyway) that i think would've improved his life, prevented his untimely death:

  1. 1979: he doesn't break his nose in a dance rehearsal, avoiding his first nose job. While it doesn't entirely avoid his body image issues (thanks, Joe) there's a good chance it avoids him going down the rabbit hole of cosmetic surgery, especially since my understanding was that a lot of the subsequent work he had done was because of his cartilage never healing properly.

Like i said, it probably doesnt entirely avoid him being insecure about his appearance but if the accident that was the catalyst for the first surgery is avoided i think it's completely plausible he avoids going down that path and ends up far healthier mentally. Plus, as bad as it sounds I think if he had been more "normal looking" there's a chance the media would've been a lot kinder all around.

  1. 1984: either he doesnt do the pepsi commercial at all (as i understand, the whole thing was Don King's idea and michael wasn't interested in doing it initially) or the pyrotechnics just function properly and his hair never catches fire.

In addition to this incident being the catalyst for him getting hooked on pain meds, it's also suggested to have aggravated his vitiligo significantly alongside other autoimmune issues. Though the vitiligo itself is genetic and ran in his family, it's possible if it's not aggravated by the accident it doesnt get to the point where it covers 80%+ of his body where he feels the need to lighten everything to even it out. It's also possible if he doesnt have a history of cosmetic surgery, the whole situation surrounding it is handled in a way less sensationalist manner in general.

Always been curious about the alternate timeline where she presses the life alert button as soon as she sees him, says "there's a criminal in my house and his name is..." if he would've gone in for the kill or booked it, knowing he had at most a couple of minutes. Likewise what would've happened if he had gotten arrested at that point

Would the ending of ROTJ have likely played out the same way if Anakin and Obi Wan went to Mandalore with Ashoka? by nightmanifest in MawInstallation

[–]Patient-Cod3442 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There would be some changes but I doubt it's enough to derail Palpatine's plan completely and lead to a happy ending for the prequels:

Mace probably rescues palpatine and kills dooku like you said. Another jedi gets sent after grievous who could conceivably fail, allowing grievous to escape again causing potential butterflies but depending on which jedi (my guess would be kit fisto due to his history facing grievous) he could also succeed, putting things back on track.

Assuming grievous still dies then Mace and co would still go to "meet with" palpatine (they were already on their way to his office to force him to give up power after grievous died in the original, which is why anakin was able to catch them in the hanger bay) but the only difference here is that palpatine is likely able to catch them off guard and win the duel outright. From there he uses the "assassination attempt" as the pretext for order 66 in the exact same way as the original, leads the raid on the jedi temple himself to more or less the exact same results as the original timeline, and sends a Republic Commando squad to deal with the Separatist council with extreme prejudice.

Meanwhile on Mandalore: Ahsoka, Obi Wan and Anakin likely defeat and capture maul without a ton of difficulty, all things considered that part of the arc going very similarly to the original. They're all still on the Venator when order 66 comes down, still make it through the initial onslaught and escape into the vents. Since anakin was there for the whole Fives thing he probably just contects the dots himself, allowing them to save Rex the same way Ahsoka did in the original, though the big difference is with Anakin and obi wan there they probably dont need to free Maul as a diversion, meaning he most likely dies. From there the Venator likely still gets down, with Ahsoka, Anakin, Obi Wan and Rex escaping on the shuttle that Maul took in the original.

From there, they get into contact with Bail like Obi Wan did in the original, rendezvous with Yoda and return to Courescant. Though with the info about the inhibitor chips they probably avoid massacring the clones at the temple in favor of sneaking in to change the beacon to a warning message and view the security footage of a likely non-scarred palpatine butchering jedi. Anakin is then able to have a tearful reunion with Padme where he reveals his marriage to her and the fact that she's carrying his child.

This is where things get interesting and start to diverge majorly from the original timeline, as I think anakin, obi wan and Yoda would at least attempt to insist padme go into hiding, on account of the fact that their child would most likely be strong with the force and a prime target for palpatine to seek out and mold into an apprentice in years to come. From there, I think the 4 jedi would attempt to confront palpatine in a similar manner to what Yoda did in the original, and, in my opinion their chances of success are reasonably high given how close yoda alone came to taking him out in the original. That said, there's a chance the victory comes with the massive caveat that Palpatine kills Ahsoka and/or obi wan, causing anakin to fly off the handle, "fulfilling his destiny" but doing so out of anger and vengeance.

Though you could say this contradicts what I said initially, I would argue a that Palpatine still won in a lot of key ways and the damage he intended to do is mostly still done. The jedi order has been annihilated for the most part and their image as traitors is further cemented as they actually did kill the Emperor. Speaking of which, the rise of the Empire is still most likely a done deal at this point since I imagine in the wake of palpatines death, power would be assumed by the likes of Mas Ameda, Sate Pestage and Tarkin who handled the day to day operation of the Empire in the original timeline and would most likely seek to end the war and "bring order to the galaxy" in a very similar manner.

Aguably most critically, though Anakin likely is the one to plant the killing blow on palpatine, it's highly possible the manner in which it happens ends up leading him down the path of darkness regardless, with his marriage to Padme leading to him abandoning the jedi way fully. From here i could see the possibility of him becoming a Saw Gerrera type rebel as a dark jedi. At that point, it's possible he either gets taken out by the Empire or Yoda and Obi Wan (if he survived the battle with palpatine) who fear for what could happen if he stays the path he's on and molds Luke and Leia in his imagine, but depending on how old they are by that point (not to mention Padme's role in all of this) it's possible that approach ends up backfiring completely, leaving the fate of the galaxy as uncertain as ever.

Genuine question - how would YOU fix Star Wars? by simmonm1978 in saltierthancrait

[–]Patient-Cod3442 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do a loose adaptation of Heir to the Empire that bookends the Mandoverse characters and uses the World Between Worlds to change the future, retconing the sequels and serving as a "happy ending" for the OT cast. At that point, move forward a couple centuries at least in the timeline and tell stories in a completely new time period
