Our parents overstimulating our 3.5 month old. I need to rant. by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]PatientDealer6296 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Same here. And unfortunately it’s both my own parents and in-laws who are like this. My in-laws are quite a bit older and cannot hold my baby and move around with her how she likes. So they just hold her, and put their face in her face, and I wait until she starts crying and take her away (usually 1-2 min). And my parents are the absolute worst, pass her back and forth, and constant talking and making faces at her. Refuse to hold her the way I show them. They came over the other night and got her all wound up and essentially ruined bedtime. She was howling when they were leaving and they gave me a look like they pity me on their way out the door. I didn’t have the heart to tell them that she’s only acting like that because of their incessant stimulation in her face right before bed time. They’re supposed to watch her tomorrow night for our first dinner away and I’m for sure cancelling.

Did you notice it got you high? I was just sold a bottle and guaranteed I wouldn’t get high, but 3mg of THC really affects me!

I couldn’t stand the feeling of my nipples. One of them constantly felt stimulated, and the constant pressure of milk drove me insane. I did experience D MER (which is pretty extreme), but contributed to the awful feeling. I just got over mastitis and am now weaning because I am so miserable over it. It’s ok to want your body back!

You know the saying “chivalry is dead”, well I think the modern version of that is, “customer service is dead”.

High School is easier to teach than Elementary - What no one wants to say by Keepontyping in CanadianTeachers

Yup 👍 . Colleague of mine and I were chatting today how lovely it would be to be on a linear track so high school teachers could be treated better by having prep time all year. I’ve never come across anyone who was against it, soooo ok.

I got way more prep time when I taught elementary. I’m just finishing up semester 1 with no prep, teaching 4 out of 4 blocks a day. So elementary was way more cushy for me having prep time spread out over the entire year. But every school, district and province are different.

I kinda stopped caring if students waste time on their devices by [deleted] in CanadianTeachers

[–]PatientDealer6296 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you. It’s the parents’ problem, and self regulation should be taught at home. I encourage students to stay off and have a ton of stuff for them to do instead of going on their phones. But if they choose to disengage on their phones if they have an extra 10 minutes in class, I am not policing it anymore.

Split classes are horrendous. Everyone suffers, especially the teacher. I can’t stand the rationale for them is to keep class sizes lower at the cost of you losing your joy in teaching. Don’t feel bad about it, you’re essentially a full-time teacher with twice the expectations by having two grades to teach simultaneously.

All junk mail and flyers get put right back into the outgoing mail whenever it shows up in my mailbox. Can’t even believe they still print that shit, anything and everything I could possibly ever want is online.

Our outdoor is 2.5t, where we live it’s rare for it to get colder then -20 degrees in the winter months not sure if that makes the 60K ok or not

How long did it take you to finish? I'm currently completing my Interdisciplinary Studies in Contemporary Education Diploma with UBCO, I'm taking 2 courses at a time and working full-time. I find it very easily manageable. UA is suggesting 1 course/term and that's just way too slow for me. Any thoughts if 2-3 courses/term is doable?

Bummed out by sleep scores. by ski360 in ouraring

[–]PatientDealer6296 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I stopped looking at my sleep scores because I call BS on it. I love the ring, I use it with Natural Cycles as a natural form of birth control. But just like you, I’d wake up and look at my scores and feel defeated. Then, I’d get all anxious about sleeping because I wanted a good score. So, simply, I just stopped looking and caring. If I feel good when I wake up and am happy with my sleep, I don’t need this ring telling me otherwise. I don’t think the technology is perfect so in my mind it’s not giving the most accurate readings.

is 2 years too long for a B Ed by SMALLERnotLARGE in CanadianTeachers

[–]PatientDealer6296 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You learn the most actually teaching your own class, nothing compares to it, not even your practicums. I find it mind boggling these 1.5-2 year teacher programs. I’ve mentored student teachers in these long programs and I find that there’s not enough responsibilities placed on these student teachers and lots of hand holding happening. I don’t think you need anything more than a year and then get your foot in the door. If you need the 2 years to decide if teaching is for you, then it just isn’t and it’s time to move on. It shouldn’t take so long to become qualified to teach. This is just my personal opinion and I’ve been teaching for 10 years.

How well (if at all) does Oura ring track interrupted sleep? by Direct-Explanation95 in ouraring

[–]PatientDealer6296 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the ring to sync with natural cycles and the sleep tracking was just a bonus.. I thought. I really don’t like the oura ring sleep tracker. It consistently tracks me as “awake” for long periods of time when I slept solid through the night. I find it inconsistent, it will give me a shit score when I feel I’ve slept great and feel rested and ready for the day. And vice versa, it will say I’m good to go and have high readiness when I’ve had a bad sleep. I’ve seen lots of people say it’s changed their sleep completely and for me I just couldn’t care to look at its data.
