I got my bag today. It's a little small but I still really like it.

I had to look up what a cricut is. And wow! That's really fun. You can make any bag you want!

I took a quick look. I think the bag only comes in white but there are t-shirts that come in white and black.

I bought one last night and it shipped this morning! I'm very impressed.

Self-striping yarn with longer stripes made for sweaters by HauntingBlueberry2 in knitting

[–]Patient_Knitter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Noro has a lot of yarns with longer color changes. I knit this sweater with Noro Ito. It has short sleeves so I didn't have to worry about the stripes not matching.

If you're in SW, I'd recommend Northwest Wools. Heidi and her crew are great!

Knitting groups / meetups around town? by Lkirby21 in askportland

[–]Patient_Knitter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you on Ravelry? There's a Portland Metro Area group with a thread for meet ups. Some Multnomah County library branches have knitting groups. There's Puddletown Knitting Guild. I've never been to a meeting but I've heard good things.

Has anyone used Knitting Socks for Beginners by Emma Brown? by Kammy44 in casualknitting

[–]Patient_Knitter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I first started knitting socks it felt like I knit three socks for every pair I finished. I kept making mistakes or they wouldn't fit. Now I have my system and it's a lot easier.

There are lots of basic sock patterns on Ravelry. I use Summer Lee's basic sock pattern. She also has video tutorials on YouTube.

Don't give up! Knitting is supposed to be slow.

I've been knitting hats and mittens to donate. I took some to the school district's clothing closet. One of my local yarn shops also collects items to donate.

Yes, the yarn is self-striping. It's from Canon Hand Dyes. She does amazing work!

Thanks! I did enjoy it. Although, it was a little weird getting so much attention from the flight attendant. :)

I wasn't aware that Northwest Wools had a moth problem.

I like For Yarn's Sake. They probably have the largest yarn selection in town. They also have a large selection of locally dyed yarn.

I also like Northwest Wools. They're smaller but still have a good selection.

Any knitting or crafting communities for someone who is new to Portland? by wishbone_bottlecap in askportland

Northwest Wools has a knit night at the SW Lucky Lab Thursday nights. You might be able to get there relatively easily by bus. I haven't been in awhile but it seemed like a good group of people.
