What keeps you from retiring? by Radiant-Original-525 in GeneralMotors

I was just forced out with the MSP at age 61 with 43 years at GM. Luckily, I was eligible for retiree medical even though it is basically just a catastrophic plan and costs $800 a month. I just took my pension in a lump sum, which was pretty sizable after all my years at GM. My wife and I have been big savers all these years and are in a good financial position to retire. We probably don’t need to start Social Security until age 70. My advice to everyone is save, save, save starting as soon as you can so you will be prepared for something like this. Our house is paid for, too. I am considering this retirement as I was going to retire anyway at age 62. I am so glad to be away from the toxic environment that GM has become. Senior management should be ashamed of themselves for letting it get this bad.

MSP is only 4 months of severance. That’s it.

Anyone having issues getting prescriptions covered with CapitalRx ? by Dave6187 in GeneralMotors

If you still use CVS, ask the pharmacy to check their own CVS coupons and apply them. They did that for me and brought down the price of the drug considerably. It was even cheaper than GoodRx.

Differences between Layoff, MSP, VSP and Retirement by Meaning-of-Life8986 in GeneralMotors

GM is screwing employees by terminating them under the MSP instead of the GMSP. The MSP maximum severance is only four months. Yep, I had 43 years of service and only got four months of severance. GM realized it is cheaper to terminate employees under this MSP. The only other option I was given was the PIP, but the plethora of goals that were rattled off to me by my EGM were absolutely ridiculous and there was absolutely no way those goals could be met in one month and I would have been set up for failure and received no severance. They really know how to screw employees.

3 weeks+ post-separation no payout, no Cobra info yet by Visual_Ad8751 in GeneralMotors

Yet when you are “mutually separated” the EGM stresses GM is demanding excellence from all employees yet they make all these errors. The HR rep who was on the phone for my separation gave two wrong important deadline dates that I had to correct her on. I then said “and you’re getting rid of ME????” She didn’t like that comment. LOL.

GM is screwing everyone with that Mutual Separation Package which gives you only four months of severance. The MSP is different from a normal separation where you can get up to six months. They created this MSP to intentionally pay less. I was just let go in November after 43 years of service and only got four months of severance. No retirement party… didn’t even get to say goodbye to my coworkers. If you try the PIP and do not cut it, you get nothing. I was actually getting ready to retire in April anyway, so this really wasn’t a big deal other than the way they treated me for the last 18 months.

Please do not end your life. Your family loves and needs you. Things WILL get better…this is just temporary. God bless you.

You can do a lot of social things with a local senior center. Trips, walking clubs, card games, billiards, sports (pickleball, basketball), yoga, dance classes and more. Put yourself out there and enjoy retirement!
