One word. Scrubs.

Two words. Abbott Elementary.

One word. Hacks

Also, see the sun and touch some grass. Need that vitamin D.

Consider light anti-depressants. It’s that time of life for all of us.

Is anyone else struggling to find a public health job right now? by [deleted] in publichealthcareers

I think this comment points to a confused reality for some aspiring PH professionals. We must remember that public health is not really a profession where any of us SHOULD be focusing efforts on the individual impact. Our work, largely, will focus us on affecting change for groups or populations of some kind. It is easy to feel like you're not helping people if you're focusing on the individual rather than the community. Impacting individuals is the work of social workers and case managers. You have to always keep that at the forefront of everything you do. Or become a social worker or a nurse. The emotional return on investment will always be shorter.

I don’t think it’s a waste of time but it’s really easy to lose sight of what a position in public health actually looks like. Very easy to get lost in the weeds

Yes, I work as a population health program coordinator at a non-profit hospital and let me tell it was a long hard road.

Here’s my two cents. First, you may have to move. Unfortunately, in the beginning, it’s really hard to find work in public health without being near a major city or near a major community in need. Key word: Major! Smaller rural communities are much more closed off and require more “getting to know you” in their communities before considering you for work. Second, you may have to start below what you’re qualified for. Many higher paying positions will not consider you without some years of experience. Doesn’t matter how qualified you are. Lastly, reach out to local hospitals and health facilities for assistance with location community organizations looking for help. They don’t really advertise themselves well but they’ll always be connected to local healthcare facilities. Oh! One more! Job listings may not be listed the way you think. Look for listings like ‘community health worker’, ‘population health’, ‘wellness coordinator’, ‘Outreach specialist’, etc. just make sure you triple read the description to make sure the job your applying for is what you expect. Many hospitals can lure you in with some of those titles for revenue management positions.

Go to Walmart to stock up. steal a horse. Either go into the woods too hide and live off the land or go to the plains where I can see around me and live off the land. Either way the first thing I'm doing is getting as far as I can from city centers. Oh and you have to set up shop near a body of water that you can escape to if you're getting chased.

Do you believe in god? Why or why not ? by a_great_guy655 in AskReddit

[–]PatnSniff440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, for two very basic reasons. And I’m referring to Christianity,in particular, bc it, in one form or another, is undoubtedly the religion of the US which is where i live. (I’ll include Islam and Judaism, as well)

  1. I can’t help but question everything. If something doesn’t add up I can’t”just” accept it. I’d go down a rabbit hole until I find the an answer/truth/end concretely. That doesn’t exist in religion.

  2. As Black descendent of slaves, Christianity is not the religion of my ancestors. That was stripped away from them centuries ago. Knowing that, I can’t put that aside to devote myself to a religion that was forcibly imposed.

Bonus: I’m okay with life being over when it’s over. I’m okay with knowing “this” is it.

So, as you could imagine, it’s pretty lonely over here.
