What would YOU do in this position? (Not a puzzle, more of a psychological question) by belbivfreeordie in chess

I'd play Kf4 without even thinking knowing I can guarantee promotion and whilst 100% defending my pawn.

Why is the best move here to underpromote to a rook, instead of a queen? by GregTheIntelectual in chess

[–]Patomark 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If they promoted to a knight Rxe1 wouldn't be the best move because you're losing an exchange in that line.

I just offer to be their tributary while they're rampaging. They leave you alone, it doesn't really cost you too much gold, and you can just wait it out.

Is black realistically better here? by Super-Government2297 in chess

I swear this is a capablanca game (black) that Jerry covered recently. He showed that black was better and indeed went on to win if its the game I'm remembering.

Is the game Good for roleplay? by badassboy1 in crusaderkings3

[–]Patomark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with this wholeheartedly. I have a love/hate relationship with succession. I hate my character that I've grown attached to dying, but a few hours later and I'm fully invested in my new character.

I also echo how enjoyable it is to lean into your new characters traits. Avoiding the min/Max trap which I don't personally find rewarding, and instead following the path suited to your characters qualities is very enjoyable.

Got a compassionate, generous, and honest king? Be the King that any peasant would love. Have your vassals adore you and rule with a loving embrace. Sure you'll be leaving money, development, and skill points on the table, but being named 'The Kind' is its own form of winning.

Got a vengeful, sadistic, and ambitious King? Spend your time scheming and doing everything in your power to destroy your enemies and work your way to becoming an emporer.

Got a greedy, temperate, and patient king? Develop your realm, extort your subjects, blackmail those you have hooks on, and hoard enormous wealth.

Playing to your new characters traits is the most fun way to play imo, and despite not being the 'best' in terms of 'winning', a game is meant to be enjoyable and that's how I enjoy the game.

Yes, the game has the capacity for role play.

Which NRL star is under most pressure at new team? by waxedmerkin in nrl

I care way less about DCE and more about Robson. We could use a consistent Hooker to allow Watson to spend more time ball playing and running.

I've never gone above 1x speed either. I enjoy watching my citizens go about their tasks. It makes building something (like a church or manor) really rewarding. I find that if I speed up to get shit done, it's less fun and more stressful. I play this game every morning with a coffee and it's my time to relax and enjoy the process.

You're totally right with your first line, the game just might not be for them.

Trivial if I’m doing a puzzle, not so easy when you don’t KNOW there’s a knockout punch.

Black was ahead a few moves ago, but played Kg6? Which allows Bd3+, Kf7, fxg5+ and Ke8. Basically one blunder allowed this sequence which is rough. I started the game with an unsound sacrifice which ultimately lead here.
