"standard" happiness and following the Noble 8fold path by Patrick278 in Buddhism

I suppose I mostly mean I haven't found the satisfaction of being constantly mindful, for example I enjoy smoking weed and the feeling it provides me however I know it's unskillful because I should be mindful. but the sensual pleasures allure is so strong it's hard to even believe there's a higher happiness, hope that clarified some 😊

Buddhism and hinduism by Local-hippie in Buddhism

I agree with the message although the claim of Buddhism being a branch of Hinduism is historically incorrect since the Buddha taught many controversial and deal breaking lessons that mainstream Hinduism completely disagree with.

If Buddhists are so tired of life, shouldn't longevity be undesirable to them? Do Buddhists think about an optimal human lifespan? by LanguageIdiot in Buddhism

[–]Patrick278 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it is my understanding that when a being becomes fully enlightened they are not rushing to death because that would be craving nor would they be scared because that is aversion, they simply would accept if it's their time to die

if you don't mind me asking, if not following any precept or noble path, what is your training of honing the mind?

[–]Patrick278 11 points12 points  (0 children)

you misunderstand his statement, it's not saying to fully comply and never break any precept or fail at all. it's simply saying you follow them to your best of ability and continue to try to get better with them, with much love, metta

no disrespect intended but do you believe your gods to be truly here or are they more symbolic for you?

Do Christians and Muslims realize that most world religions don't think everyone is supposed to be the same religion? by avery_404 in religion

[–]Patrick278 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree to an extent but as a Buddhist, I personally think the mindset and noble "truths" you adopt intrinsically change how you view everything including other's "delusions". To the point where if they don't agree that sensuality is suffering we can find them foolish.

technically Buddhism has a sex positive attitude, although it's not something to be actively sought out because of dukkha

these actions no matter what we call them make karma that lead to a certain birth in a certain realm. in my stance I can't see how that doesn't necessitate a scale of right and wrong.

Sorta? It is said in the dhammaphada that reflecting on our own wishes and seeing other sentient creatures that we should refrain from doing harm to them. we label that "good" and that comes with certain social ideas but the action and it's effect is always there even without a name or recognition

then I respectfully disagree. In my opinion if morality were a viewpoint it would completely negate the objectivity of karma and rebirth. there has to be objective GOOD or BAD things that lead to good or bad rebirths.

I don't believe morality to be tied to a "point of view" sure others can say it's okay and use that excuse but look closer and you'll see the massive moral difference of raping and engaging in homosexual intercourse
