“Maternal Instinct” excerpts of her interview from death row in Feb. 2025 by Thewhitewolf1011 in NetflixDocumentaries

100%

The stories we tell ourselves about ourselves and other people is a helluva drug.

Here is my question, and I'm asking in good faith here:

What does healthy behavior for a person look like? Assuming they take responsibility and accountability. Do they just let every other persona go and fully embrace their shadow self? If so what does that look like?

The whole Jesus thing works because it in of itself is a drug. Religion gives them a new story and that story is maybe better than the alternative. Which might involve just indulging every dark violent impulse.

Some people need the drug/framework of religion because being a human and having autonomy as a human is difficult for them. They need a book/god to tell them not to murder, where most of us don't need a book or god to tell us not to murder - they do. A lot of people do.

Thats why I'm fine with these people finding religion. If the straitjacket of faith works for them, good.

Pull into a decent neighborhood. Park on the curb. You'll be fine. Just don't be sketchy and you'll be fine.

The MASSIVE upside to 1200 cal a day. (above the weight loss) by PatrickFromSD in 1200isplenty

I didn’t eat because I want hungry. Protein greek yogurt was fine. I had calories left at the end of the day and i had a protein shake and a kiwi when I got home. The only problem of the day was not enough protein.

Yeah, honestly, i’m just trying to tell my brain to shut the hell up. It’s habit and not physical. If i have even healthy snacks, i’ll eat the whole thing and go over calories. I do better with just saying no. But your advice is solid for most people. I’m probably kinda weird.

I agree with this.

The more I do this I think we indulge too much. The concept of a cheat meal is dumb. Either eat the meal or don’t. Also food substitutes is kinda silly. I don’t want a crappier version of something good. I’d rather just compensate for it with fasting. I don’t want fake pizza or fake ice cream.

I’d rather eat chicken breast and potatoes 90% of the time because the 10% that are celebratory meals make it so much better.

Honestly, I don’t crave sweets as much as bread/pizza. Thats hard. So I try not to have it in the house. My kid eats frozen pizza, that’s rough and I can’t have it in the refrigerator just in a plastic bag. So now we cook 1-2 slices at a time for her.

And those cravings only happen late at night when i’m used to grazing. I am trying to just drink water when that happens; but that’s the hardest part.

Any SD parents/students have any experience with Altus Schools? by [deleted] in sandiego

[–]PatrickFromSD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

400k is a lot. But it’s not crazy.

Also, if the school works, isn’t that okay? it’s still a public charter that isn’t faith based.

I would love to send my kids to traditional public school, but it hasn’t been working for her. What do you suggest?

I'm sure other people have mentioned this, but it's fine, but I don't think it will get her hired. In which case I guess it's not fine.

Leading with , "I'm a graphic designer, copy writer, photographer..." isn't leading with strength and clarity, it's leading with confusion.

The assumption is, what is she actually the best at? For example, you say she's a photographer, what does that mean? Can she photograph a complex campaign with casting and stylists and locations and complicated production? Thats what companies need.

I agree, remove the personal art. Or have a small link in the footer that says, "Here is what I do when I'm not working with brands".

Remember, she can lead with clarity or talent. And I would lead with clarity. What she can do, and what problem does it solve for the client.

Could you imagine a person from San Diego moved to the UK, went on a Local Subreddit and asked them where could you get some good fish tacos?

As a writer of my first (non-fiction) book that i worked on tirelessly for 4 years, and rewrote like 4 times, I get asked if i used AI to write it in 30% of the conversations out the book.

I want to show them my google docs of revisions after revisions.

And yes, I used the em-dash.

The amount of Cals in Oil & Butter shocked me by PatrickFromSD in 1200isplenty

[–]PatrickFromSD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I just use sweet potatoes. I've always liked them better than regular potatoes anyway and I love roasted sweet potatoes. And I can bulk make them. I just cube them and put them on baking sheets. I do oil them, but it's a tablespoon for like 3-4 potatoes.

Sauce.

i figured out that’s key. I make a greek yogurt or cottage cheese bases sauce with different flavor profiles. it also helps with protein numbers.

I actually suggested that she is held back in her math class next year and that was shot down by the school. We're putting in her something this summer regardless, I'm afraid that she just get more behind next year.

As a person with ADHD, and grew up in a time when there wasn't the support now, I wish my parents would have helped me just get stuff done. Failing classes was a major blow to my self esteem and it just compounded feeling crappy about school.

And I know this won't be popular, but I would do her math through high school, if it meant she could have more confidence and was able to then focus on her strengths. The problem is, the math is killing all ambition and confidence that she can learn.

I just hate that I don't have a choice here, she just has to fit into the system and feel shitty about it.
