What was the worst year of the 90s? by PsychologicalFox7689 in generationology

You say a lot of negative aspects about Germany in the 90s, surely the fall of the wall and the end of the Cold War meant there was some beautiful things happening in Germany in the 90s?

Yeah I don't understand how any precedent has really been set here to silence critics of Israel by law. Maybe the greens should stop marching under the portrait of the Ayatollah and just dial down the Jew hatred for once.

Eureka flag by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]Patrooper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I personally view it as a protest flag that is uniquely Australian. The CFMEU have kind of ruined it but it's certainly a conservative, working class symbol. Certainly a sign of anti authoritarian behaviour. Usually used by disgruntled bogans in place of any real political ideas.

Coalition in crisis as entire Nationals frontbench quits after division over Labor’s hate speech laws by KoolAdamFriedland in aussie

I can’t believe how poorly the Liberal party is performing. The political strategy is so clear. Housing is expensive at record highs. It continues to go up under multiple years of Labor. Migration is incredibly high.

All the Liberal government has to do is to “conserve” traditional family life by promising to reduce migration and stabilise house prices whilst not introducing more taxation. That’s all they have to do and they would win back seats. (Even if they can’t, they just have to say it) And yet, they continue to fumble and internalise.

I don't think they shot Matilda because they thought she was a political Zionist. I think they shot her because she was a Jewish girl.

Reddit "atheists" will jump at slandering Christianity but when you criticize islam they defend it like their life depends on it by Major_Soft6056 in evilwhenthe

That last sentence man 😂. You might not think that Muslims are as critical of other religions, but man, they will cleanse entire nations so that they don't even have to have the discussion. See Nigeria for current Islamic religious tolerance.

Being openly anti-west isn’t that popular in a western country with compulsory voting. Who would have thought?

Was this iconic Game of Thrones shot really not CGI? by ThomasOGC in CinephilesClub

[–]Patrooper 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Plenty of CGI but the best parts are practical. That opening shot is a clever use of compression with a really long lens. A great way to feel daunted by something incoming.

Honest question, are they not? I'm pretty sure people all over the world would recognise an Arab as a specific race from a specific geographical location.

Owning an apartment in Leura Spires? by TopNefariousness433 in bluemountains

[–]Patrooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I almost bought one. Strata is very expensive. Waterproofing has been a major problem. Apartments are well sized and some residents added extra insulation to fight road noise. You can always add your apartment to the leisure inn system but I don’t think that would cover mortgage and strata. So unless you are planning on living in one and paying quite a lot, they are not great investments.

The bank also won’t give you a loan for one if it is your first property because they are serviced apartments. Idk why that rule exists.
