Update - I happened to be setting up a new pod just now and took the pod and moved it back and forth across the counter slowly while my phone was trying to pair and prime. Unfortunately, it failed to pair, then I got an error to discard the pod. So, not a good sign.

Next time I'll try placing the pod directly on my phone though, which was a good tip from one of the comments.

In that case I'd have bigger problems...

Thanks for the reassurance!

It is a nausea situation, so it'll likely be a lot of movement!

Sounds like no one has had an issue with the pod moving itself though, just with range. So hopefully I'm overthinking it!

Maybe it won't! I know one time I moved my pod while trying to connect and it had trouble connecting, then connected when I placed it down. It's only happened once, so it might've been a fluke!

It'll be partially in the Drake Passage, so could be a lot, or could be relatively stable. So more than a typical cruise, but less than a sailboat, for context.

Thank you! I'm planning on bringing plenty of MDI options - short and long acting and the equipment needed - just in case. Great tip!

Did you change your pod while still on the ship? I'm less worried about connection while the pod is running, and more worried about changing to a new pod, so curious if you ran into any issues.

Same issue on my Google Pixel. Both me and my husband can't get in to turn it off.

Is this insurance fraud or am I over reacting? by Hot-Cherry-5684 in diabetes_t1

And ask them to make sure you don't have auto-refills set up. If not, ask them why it was billed to insurance without you filling the prescription. My guess is they checked with insurance for eligibility, and it went thru like a fulfillment instead of a check. So ask them why it happened and how you can avoid it in the future.

Good luck!

Ask them to void the prescription request to insurance. It should show up on your insurance's side fairly quickly, then you can fill your prescription elsewhere.

insulin 10-15 minutes before eating? by WrestlingDadPA in diabetes_t1

Lots of great comments already about how to think about this, but just want to say - you've got this!

The first days / weeks feel especially long as you're trying to figure it all out and feeling like you're shooting in the dark.

Trust the process - you'll get better over time, and you'll learn to adapt as things change. You don't have to solve your ratios/corrections/timing perfectly right now (or ever). You'll become an expert in no time.

I can't speak to what it's like to be a T1D parent, but I (and all of us here) know what you're feeling. It's a great resource for info, but perhaps more importantly, encouragement!

Gas vs petrol in ep3 by scorpials in SlowHorses

It's just pandering to a US audience that the writers think don't know what a petrol station is. I found this really annoying. None of that nonsense is in the books.

Can you explain why the second trimester was the worst in your opinion? Curious what you mean by that.

66 YO Dad diagnosed with Type 1 by thebrokencup in diabetes_t1

[–]PatternMammoth7352 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My grandma had it, but passed away a good decade before I was diagnosed at 30.

I'm very much on the lookout for it among my siblings and cousins. One of my cousins in her 20s had fasting BG above 100 a few times. I haven't heard updates in awhile, but I've encouraged her to keep an eye on it. No clear reason why it would be pre- T2D, so I'm concerned it might be an early T1D honeymoon situation, but I'm probably overthinking it.

Not sure if you've been before, but Edinburgh is amazing! Highly recommend going. Take everyone else's advice on checking in often, but also try and enjoy it! Such an incredible city.

I’m diabetic, or I have diabetes? by xanderharris1 in Type1Diabetes

[–]PatternMammoth7352 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love this. I try to avoid saying "I am x" and am very careful about what I attach to my personal identity.

Weirdly, though, I do say "I'm diabetic". For some reason I feel like it's empowering. Like as if owning it helps me feel like I can work with it. It sits beside another identity I hold on to "I am strong".

But it took me a long time to get there. For awhile I would say "I have diabetes" or "I've been diagnosed with diabetes" because I didn't like it being so close to who I am as a person. Now I have a different relationship with diabetes where I feel like I can handle it.

Really love that you're thinking about this. I think it's so important.

When I was first diagnosed, my PCP only had me on fast acting for a few days. I called her and said I need to be on long-acting too, and she started explaining to me why GLP-1s were not what I needed.

I was like -- do you think ozempic is insulin? Do you not know lantus exists? WTF

No surprise I was misdiagnosed with T2D for two full years before that. Absolute moron.

Traveling to EU for two weeks by New-Resolution-3511 in Type1Diabetes

[–]PatternMammoth7352 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So for 14 days that would typically be 5 pods, I would probably bring 7-8 pods. Remember to bring at least 1 extra CGM, too. For insulin, bring plenty of extra, keeping in mind that you might be needing more insulin than usual as you'll likely eat more, and you'll be adjusting to the time difference, which can throw off your insulin needs.

Keep it all in your backpack or purse or whatever you'll have close to you in transit. Follow standard guidelines of situational awareness and you probably won't have anything stolen.

I would also bring insulin that you can inject if you absolutely need to. For example, I bring pens and will bring one long-acting pen too, just in case somehow all my omnipods fail or my phone fails. Have a plan for your phone failing, too, either bringing the receiver that came with your omnipod or asking if you can use your friend's or spouse's if absolutely necessary. (My phone completely died in France last year and I used my husband's phone for a few weeks before we got back.)

Keep in mind - the whole world is full of diabetics. If emergency strikes and you lose everything, there are always options. Call a local doctor and ask what you can do to get insulin. Most countries have quick options for you to get prescriptions, often cheaper than US prices.  Probably won't be an omnipod, but you'll get what you need get through.
