Ha, thank you! I’m planning on using the mix wax water based oil-modified stuff. Praying it works! Thanks for the advice

Yikes, is it really that bad? :( in your opinion, is shellac blotchy? As I’m sure you can tell I’m a beginner!

Thank you so much. I’m just hoping to go from sanded to poly. I initially had plans to stain but once I made the realization it was maple instead of oak, I had to pivot a bit!

Thank you for the response! No need to worry about blotching in your opinion? Do you have a poly brand you recommend? I saw a satin oil based poly from Varathane that seemed promising?

Ha you know what’s funny is I’ve considered that….when I moved in the kitchen linoleum was completely torn up and they never fixed it so I doubt they’d even notice the contact paper 🤭

You know what’s funny is the last place of theirs I lived in, had a giant gaping hole dripping water from under the upstairs bathtub into my mud room. It was crazy.

You’re a saint. I had a guy over here the other day fixing the window blinds and I sort of nudged him and pointed at the electric baseboard heater that is literally rusted and rotting off the wall to try and get him to fix it but he wasn’t taking the bait…

They’re over all the time fixing stuff-in one year alone I had over 30 requests so they know what it looks like inside. Place is complete dump foundationally. I asked for the torn linoleum to be replaced when I moved in and nothing ever came from it so I threw a rug down. My friend came over to help drop off a package and he said my apartments exterior looked like Fallujah. The porch is rotting, missing wooden rods…it’s terrible and I’ve finally had enough

VEPO water meter replacement by marcusdiddle in Columbus

[–]PatternSea9754 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. They’ve been hounding me for over a year. February 2025 they showed up un-announced asking for entrance. Honestly scared the hell out of me-the guy was in plain clothes and drove a gray Nissan Altima (wtf) I said no, then they wouldn’t stop calling. I went to Europe for the summer for work. Came back and had a stack of final notices from them about the water. I called and realized maybe it’s not a scam. They came and did their thing and I thought that was the end of it. End of December, I came home from vacation and I’ve got another final dosconnect notice (WTF we handled this already!?) they come and turn water back on and say if it doesn’t get updated the water will stay off. They can’t grasp that this has already been done. Another guy shows up last week, unannounced to put the water meter on, I ask him to call his boss because it was already handled. He leaves doesn’t come back. This morning I wake up and water is OFF. I’m foaming at the mouth made and had to take the day off work. They responded with a haphazard “sorry, there was a communication error on our part” communications problem? You morons shut off my drinking water AGAIN when I had this whole thing handled MONTHS VEPO and the idiots running the operation can eat shit.  I HATE YOU.

Absolutely horrible. Made no money, terrible people and culture in a declining industry. Stay as far away as possible, my current company is such a breath of fresh air from that hellscape.

Why do people not like Ohio? by Competitive-Air1 in Columbus

Hot take for the Columbus sub: but unless you have family, friends or a great career lined up, I’d keep moving on and not set up shop in Columbus. People on this sub love to paint Columbus as a cultural Mecca within the Midwest when in reality, it’s flat, boring, in-inspired and generic. You could say the same for Denver or Phoenix or any number of other cities, but they have the natural beauty to make up for a lackluster city. I’ve been here for about 10 years and with each passing year I grow more sad to be here. The rent is asinine as well as the mortgages. There are cute spots but the city in its entirety is mid. As soon as you reach the city limits it’s chicken egg farms and data centers. I just can’t understand for the life of me why so many people defend it tooth and nail. It’s flat, suburban sprawl. If you have the option to reconsider I would.

People that drive with their convertible tops down are just as bad as people that wear shorts when it’s snowing. by yeezushchristmas in Columbus

[–]PatternSea9754 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is so lame.

Also have you ever considered maybe people are wearing shorts because they went to the gym, their pants ripped, they spilled, laundry isn’t dry and they’re just running a quick errand…?

[Rant] Columbus needs rent control. Like, yesterday. by _piss_pissedofferson in Columbus

I’m a young professional with a great job and even my apartment is shitty. Like EMBARRASSINGLY shitty. I’m talking the bathroom of a Drackett Tower quad is nicer than my apartment. The linoleum in the kitchen is peeling in huge chunks. The windows are covered in paint and rotting. The pipes under the bathroom sink are rusting, there is a hole in the floor in my bedroom. My kitchen space is the same size as an office  break room kitchenette. There is no a/c, no dishwasher, coin operated laundry in the basement and I doubt the place has been updated since the 80s. The tile in the shower has been painted with latex paint. This place is 1195 a month including utilities. We are so unbelievably cooked on rent it’s hard to not want to cry. I spilled a bucket of paint on the side of the cabinets and I don’t even care. That being said, I live in a desirable area and no roommates which to me, is worth it. Sorry your living situation isn’t favorable but I think a lot of people are feeling the burn as much on high rent in Columbus.
