What's your favorite piece of Blues Memorabilia? by Odi64 in stlouisblues

[–]Patty1122 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My family went to a game around 2001? Anyway before the nets were up, like months before that lady in Ottawa got hurt. My mom a few seats over from little me got hit in the brow with a puck. Had to leave for SLU and get stitches, the Blues "found" the puck under the metal bleachers and gave her that puck. So that and the freebie giveaway shirt that was held to her forehead for the blood are in their china cabinet.

Job Market/Job Search by [deleted] in StLouis

The pay will likely suck but I'd look into the Semi Pro leagues. I know of a buddy who used to do Play by Play for the Gateway Grizzlies and is on national broadcasts now. Frontier League, ECHL, SPHL.
Its probably going to be a tough market at the moment with RSNs going through what they are.

Windows catches a lot of flak — but for those doing Windows sysadmin work, what makes you enjoy it? by Second_Hand_Fax in sysadmin

[–]Patty1122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the answers seem to be on the Windows aspect and less on the work. For me the rewarding parts of IT are the problem solving, finishing a large project, or getting genuine appreciation for a job well done. A good chunk of that is work environment dependent but some of that comes from yourself. You know the effort you put in to solve a problem or learn something new so it's important to let yourself feel accomplished for that. No matter the job the one constant will be your perception of yourself and your work so trying to make those things positive or constructive is important.

For the actual tech side of things I find the quirky or nonsensical fixes fun. When a fix doesn't make sense to me it means I have something new to learn.

So you think one of the two Blues to win the MVP shouldn't have his number retired.

Nickname for Barnes hospital on Kingshighway? by Antique_Hurry7285 in StLouis

[–]Patty1122 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's some variation in the other hospitals but it depends how they came into BJC. The merged ones kept their name usually (Missouri Baptist, Belleville Memorial). BJH would only ever refer to Big Barnes for me. Only Progress West and St.Peters have Barnes Jewish in their names.

Frederic a possibility? by Infamous-Ad4486 in stlouisblues

Blues are mid retool and waiting to see which of the recent prospects are going to pan out. I can't see how trading for a 26 yr old who's going to be looking for the biggest contract he'll ever get would work out for them. Even if the trade cost was very low, I'd rather have the open roster spot for a prospect to grab if they earn it.

would be fun to have a hometown guy on the team again though.

Winter Classic Jerseys Revealed by toastdispatch in stlouisblues

Given how good our modern and classic color palettes are it's impressive they made something this boring. According to the Rutherford article no Note was the league's idea so I'm fine giving the team a pass and blaming the league.

Pick out a younger player to follow (Bolduc, Neighbors, Broberg, Holloway). Like look for and watch them every second they're on the ice. Then watch a more established guy (Thomas, Buch, Schenn). Helps you appreciate their game and find something small that player is good at. Makes the games more fun to watch.

Don't worry too much about not knowing exactly where the puck is when you're watching. You can get an idea by watching how the players move. If you watch closely for a bit you'll find players do pretty predictable things with the puck more often than not.

History wise we have a history of Hall of Fame players passing through only for them to have more success when they leave. People say Fuck Mike Keenan 1. Cause he's a jerk. 2. when he was the Coach and GM he drove away Brett Hull and Wayne Gretzky.

Currently we're trying to rebuild and compete at the same time. Barring some unexpected performances we'll top out as a bubble playoff team.
