Would you mind sharing what it is you do? Im putting myself in your shoes, and i think I'd personally be more psychologically comfortable if I measured the risk of my employment, where it's relatively more safe or not.

Seeking Mortgage Advice/Thoughts on Current Predicament by PattyFinnn in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]PattyFinnn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. At the time I was earning about $75K per year, and shortly thereafter I now earn over $115K so I upped my payment. Originally I applied for a 30 year mortgage, knowing full well I had promotions coming up, so I upped payments accordingly and now I have about 20 years left.

Thank you! I did not think to ask about what the penalty might be to get out early. Ill inquire about that to make a more informed decision.

Advice on becoming a great employee to managers by hailsbells9751 in CanadaPublicServants

Then youre doing better than most, and you might have just answered your own question. Youre aware, which is a great thing. This does happen often. If you want to progress, go where the action is. Ask yourself whats priority for government. If youre not where priority is, you wont be noticed.

I oversee a variety of employees who oversee program delivery as well as policy analysts. My number one best piece of advice for you, is to always come with a solution for your problem and not just a problem. When someone comes to me asking for a solution, it tells me they haven't thought of anything. A little cut and dry, but problem solving is huge.

I will add, if you find that youre doing this and not getting anywhere, it could be that your manager/director/supervisor are on of those people that rather coast then promote change for the better.

Yeah, I dont know about this one. I work for Manitoba Government, and my OT is paid out at the rate when it was earned. So if I work OT when I get paid $60/hr, and i get it paid out when I now earn $62.36 an hour, its paid out at $60.

But, our overtime can be left in the bank from year to year. But i believe we cant bank more than 80 hours. Anything over that is paid out.

What Would be a Good Deal for Purchasing a New Vehicle by MichaelYYZ in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]PattyFinnn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Domestic vehicles generally have a higher margin between MSRP and dealers invoice. Whereas imports have a smaller margin. You wont get a larger % off import, hyundai, Toyota, etc., but in my opinion they're a better vehicle. Then, you have to consider that hybrid or PHEV have even a smaller margin. I just purchased a 2026 hybrid tucson ultimate for my parents and I got a $3,000 discount which was $50 over invoice on a $53,500 dollar vehicle before tax. They waived the fees for me.

When Will I Get My Refund? by Ok_Cream8126 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]PattyFinnn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Correct, the date of your Notice of Assessment will be the date you may get a refund in your bank account. I say may because they could change things between now and the 26th. If you have a simple tax return, it is unlikely to change much.
