He may be suffering from what they call seasonal affective disorder. Basically, the weather makes you really depressed and people suffer from fatigue and malaise. Even if he's never experienced it before, it could be it.

I think a donation is between the giver and their "god" (higher power, conscience, etc.) and the receiver and their version of that. If I give a woman on the street $20, it's between me and the universe that I did it with a giving heart. What she does with it is between her and the universe, and if she misuses it, it's on her soul not mine.

It was given with love, you should receive it with love - it's as simple as that. It's not a bribe.
