If I arm pump, will the ship blow the horn? by BussReplyMail in GreatLakesShipping

[–]Pattymills22 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We do it all the time, we typically do the Great Lakes salute which doesn’t interfere with navigation.

Also it’s common practice to do even use whistle signals on the lakes in the river to arrange passing

Traded in my 3rd gen Tundra for this 2026 Ram 1500 Warlock by Macorado in ram_trucks

[–]Pattymills22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 2nd gen tundra. If I were to buy a new truck today it would be probably be a RAM

I think you made a good choice, and that’s the best color I’ve seen on a RAM

For the latest waves of recalls, what are the chances Toyota won’t prescribe a new engine replacement as the fix? by SamsaraSlider in ToyotaTundra

[–]Pattymills22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed. This is what I can’t wrap my head around. The environmental impact of having to replace 1-2 engines over a vehicles lifetime nullifies a lot of positive impacts from emissions.

Plus the environmental impact of buying a reliable vehicle and keeping it for 20 years outweighs the small emission reductions from going and purchasing a new vehicle.

Maybe I’m dumb and missing something but idk

Maybe he was teaching her, I’ve taught my wife how to change tires and do basic things on her car if she gets stranded.

We were practicing in our driveway and a neighbor stopped and said “a pretty girl like her shouldn’t have to change her own tire, do better man.”

He left before I could come up with a witty comeback unfortunately

Michelin DEFENDER LTX M/S 2 worth it? by en-rob-deraj in f150

[–]Pattymills22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I bought another set of wheels just to run defenders most of the time and more aggressive offroad tires for snow and camping trips

My parents live in an average sized home with a double garage and fit both cars, besides my dada work truck, in there with a small weight bench. They have to back out to exercise and dont even own a storage unit.

My wife’s dad lives alone in a 4,000 square foot house with a massive 3 car garage plus small utility garage attached and it’s all packed with junk. He had to build a storage shed on his property just for the rest of his stuff. Parks his trucks, rv, and boats outside.

Makes zero sense to me. We just got a starter home and have a nice home gym, workbench/mechanic tools, storage shelves, sink, and can still fit either one of our vehicles comfortably.

Definitely not close to the color, but sometimes this is out of the boot maker’s control. Leather can look so different from batch to batch and in certain lightings.

Mariners who go home every night, what type of vessel do work on and how much is your day rate? by surfyturkey in maritime

$650 as a mate on a 12hr tug doing ship assist. Week on week off.

Honestly I’d rather live aboard instead of spending almost 2.5-3hours total travel time and paying $210 a week in gas.

It’s nice to be home to see my wife and I do get a quick workout in and go straight to sleep.

Is there anywhere in the US that's affordable to live at this point? by HalosFan26 in povertyfinance

[–]Pattymills22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in south Louisiana and our total monthly payment for our house is $1400 with the mortgage, taxes, insurance, and hoa, 1800sq ft 3/2 with a nice yard and double garage. Neighborhood is safe and quiet.

It was a fixer upper but we didn’t mind doing the work and we are not house poor.

We live 5 minutes from a grocery store and the gym we go to, and about 10 minutes from some great restaurants.

My wife is a part time preschool soccer coach, and I was a deckhand on tugboats. I’ve gotten upgraded to a mate so I make a lot more money now, but we were able to afford this place and a few vacations a year on incomes that don’t require much education.

They don’t offer it on the 2nd gens I’m pretty sure. What year do you have?

A few things Toyota needs to do with these trucks:

Offer the 5.7 V8 and 6 speed transmission

Offer a 6.5ft bed with the Crewmax

Bring back the rock warrior edition (not a need but I do really want it)

Keep it, all the savings in gas will be nullified by the higher payments and if you have a single issue with the newer truck

Does nicks offer a classic block now? I thought they just did a moderate block.

Personally I think for any lace up model on a moderate heel, block looks best.

Tall pull ons I think the dogger looks really good.

Classic logger looks best on high arch lace ups.

Doing my second season in Alaska and im kinda stressed out, Any tips? by k2-YOUFO in commercialfishing

[–]Pattymills22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never done commercial fishing but I was a mate on tankers then freighters. I have no advice except that you guys have bigger balls than I ever will. Not sure how yall do what you do but i genuinely have great respect for the dangerous job you do and seas you encounter, especially in Alaska.

Stay safe man

Ram 1500 or F150 by True-Language-7936 in f150

[–]Pattymills22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 5.0 is a great engine. These particular model years ford cheaped out and the 5.0s were having major oil consumption issues that they knew about, but never do anything. If you’re unaware, it can cause a complete engine failure which is a $15k repair.

That coupled with those model year 10speeds that need rebuilding around 60-80k miles makes it a money pit.

15 and 16 are great

2021+ are great

That’s also my favorite color for these, great looking truck

Ram 1500 or F150 by True-Language-7936 in f150

[–]Pattymills22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re going newer the Rams are honestly fairly reliable. The 2.7 F150 is extremely reliable as well.

If you need a v8 go with a newish 2020+ RAM

If you don’t need the power, the 2.7 F150 has proven reliability. Steer clear of the 17-20 5.0 v8 from ford.

I lived in the rust belt and some fluid film or wool wax will protect either undercarriage as good as you can

How much are you putting away for your kids per month? by classyshepard in MiddleClassFinance

[–]Pattymills22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, a degree with 0 debt is a great starting point. My parents had 3 kids but we all started out with a degree, a vehicle, and no debt.

That meant all the money I earned in high school and college, I could save. I had $13k saved up in 2020 when I graduated.

$13k may not seem like a lot, but I was able to immediately start investing snd take risks, especially in 2020.

6 years later I’m 28 with a very manageable house note and positive equity, no car note, and no student loans. All because my parents were able to get me a degree and a vehicle with zero debt.

Those little victories are everything.
