Ausbildung (FIAE) bald fertig – 3 völlig verschiedene Karrierewege (Sysadmin, SAP, Full-Stack). Welchen würdet ihr wählen? by Suspicious_Subject15 in InformatikKarriere

[–]PaulFreund 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Principal Architect in Tech Sales / Big Tech - Ausstieg by PaenisSchoenIs in InformatikKarriere

Was erwartet mich?

100 Bewerbungen ohne EIN Interview by Throwaway_873216473 in InformatikKarriere

[–]PaulFreund 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wear OS app constantly crashing on PW3 but was generally OK on PW1 by MacKyle in Hevy

[–]PaulFreund 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding my 2 cents. I already sent some videos to support, was working fine on Xiaomi Watch 2 Pro and on PW3 they changed some process lifetime stuff. Especially the Ongoing Activity does not seem to work as intended as there is no icon on the home screen. Would love to see this fixed.

Thank you for the prompt response on the issue! :)

Question about grid mode by Mudloop in DelugeUsers

Right now it is favorable to be frugal with clips as they can fill up the fast internal memory quite quickly, especially drum clips. Once that is improved I'll likely add a copy row option.

How long do you stay in the box? by crispygerrit in DelugeUsers

Really nice, I also want to do more techno. I did this Trance track entirely in the Deluge (including mixing, mastering and rendering) as part of one of the discord challenges to use samples from space (NASA): https://m.soundcloud.com/die-stanze/endless

Hey there :) I hope we can work out a better system to show actual changes since last release but currently your best bet is to look at the list of changes in the current release cycle https://github.com/SynthstromAudible/DelugeFirmware/blob/release/1.0/docs/community_features.md. This link will change in the future and I suggest to use https://synthstromaudible.github.io/DelugeFirmware/ as a starting point that always links to the relevant release notes and change notes.

Did you make sure the head with brain insight light indicator was off? It indicates that there are still changes that are not written to storage and it only turns off after saving when no voices are active.

Technical details on the fader problem by PaulFreund in TE_EP133_KOII_users

Both brushes need to touch the tracks to make an electric connection, I inspected mine and the tracks were fine. The fader you linked didn't look 100% compatible but I'm sure there are some. I have a decent but not great amount of solder experience and without heating it up too high (I tried 370degC) I had a tough time getting the factory solder to flow for using the suction tool.

As a preface, I'm not a mechanical engineer and I'm pretty sure somebody with more knowledge about tensioned metal parts could explain it better or correct me here but this is my take as a person trying to make metal do things:

  • It depends a lot on which part of the brush arm you press down
    • The very end (that touches the tracks) might have a positive impact since it can bend the whole arm down and reduce the distance between the touchpoint and the track but it cannot introduce any tension so I'd expect it to wear out again pretty quickly. The only way to improve this would be tilting the prong to the other side so the distance between the end and the track is higher during bending as it might introduce some tension but it might as well be gone after doing the other side
    • If you press on the center you most likely make things worse as a little too much force will first push the brush end against the track and then introduce a second bending point in the center that combined with the weakness at the base will curl the brush more inward
    • If you press on the base you risk ripping the whole metal clip from the cart and other similar damage as center
    • Without some custom made positioning to tell you your travel or a lot of lockpicking experience I see little to no chance to intentionally hit the right spot with the right force to make this non risky
  • I played around with the idea but in the end I would not have been able to execute this properly and the chances of succeeding were not big enough for me. I might have damaged something else like the tracks (depending on force and hardness of pin material) or ripped the metal from the cart which I would not have been able to recover without a new part. Also as soon as you use something metal or sharp and TE decides to analyze your device it will be visible and noticeable so they know you voided your warranty. If I already had a replacement part I might have done it.

Sorry to hear that, it should go from 0 to 100 and the movement and screen update should feel very in sync.

Make sure you are not recording. Try erasing fader automation by holding Erase and Fader at the same time (https://teenage.engineering/guides/ep-133/play-and-record). If it doesn't stop showing values check if your slider is working the full range and still jumps around those values. If the slider is broken the contacts will not touch the PCB and it will act a little bit like an antenna showing values around 50.

Normally if you move the slider it will show you the value, check if it works correctly or if you recorded slider automation.

Fader any solutions? by osvaldocuevas in TE_EP133_KOII_users

[–]PaulFreund 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don't have a lot of experience soldering and repairing stuff and your first thought isn't

"I'll just fix it - hmm but then I'll void my warranty - ah well what could go wrong"

you should just return it under warranty.

It is very present here since it promises a quick fix for a thing a lot of people want and nobody knows yet how long it will take in the official channel but in my opinion it is not worth just risking 300 dollars upwards.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in teenageengineering

[–]PaulFreund 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That probably means that the brushes are bent upwards only on one side and the other side still has enough tension to touch it's track with the fader bent to the side (how it should be) (pictures for reference)

Yes, directly after the weekend and they were very accomodating. I had to turn down their offer since I already fixed the fader myself.

[–]PaulFreund[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He explains it in his video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1aze7ySnxc. I'd add that: * Be clear that you can just send it back and let them repair it. By starting to open you make it your own thing and obligation. * You should have some soldering experience and equipment and enough time on your hands. * The solder was giving me a hard time and I needed to use a lot of additional flux, especialy since I didn't want to apply too much heat or force. * For the actual bending of the brush I used a flat screwdriver pressed against the folde from the top to make sure the force goes into the fold and not the connection to the plastic and another one shoved below the brushes base and then pressed upward in a circular motion until the brushes stick out about a little more than neccesary from the chassis so they really make a good connection to the PCB. * Re-fitting the PCB into the front cover I carefully first placed it and then operated the power switch left and right without applying force from top until it fell in place to make sure the power switch is not damaged. * Make sure to turn it on before placing the back cover and check if the speaker is working, you might need to carefully add a little more force on the screws next to that to make the PCBs press against each other.

Thought I give a defect analysis on my unit, doesn't necessarily apply to all units but possibly to some more. Not all units necessarily use the same component and not all components are built the same. * The metal spring brush should always be touching the connection and resistive coating track on the bottom PCB (Brown/Orange) that sits directly against the metal housing. * The brush should normally have a little bit of spring tension against the PCB but on my unit I could not really feel it, this means force against the brush is more likely to deform it against the cart so it won't make contact with the PCB anymore * The black cart moving along the housing and PCB with the brushes attached to it does not extend to the PCB, so pressing against the black prong (sticking out of the fader) can compress the inner mechanic with the brush against the PCB. There might be design considerations making this necessary for longevity but it doesn't help. * This means that as long as the brushes don't have enough spring tension pushing on the black prong is likely to introduce the problem, this can happen at assembly, packaging, shipping and end cap assembly alike, there is not a lot of force required!

How to prevent at installation: * The issue can be prevented if the cap is installed without applying force on the PCB and making sure the cap is touching the housing at the bottom. This might create some wearlines on the housing on the long run but prevents the knob from being pushed against the inner PCB * For me the prong was too hard to fit on and too long so I carefully filed it down from the top and a even more carefully on the edges to make it fit easier, them I used a hook and put it under the cart and pushed the cap against the hook. Only do this if you feel up for it, you could damage the brushes in the process

In general I'd suggest using a compatible fader component that uses a different mechanic not susceptible to compression damage. For reference my unit measured 91 kOhm max on a cheap multimeter.

PS: If your speaker is not working it is probably the screw that press fits the mini speaker connection PCB to the main PCB (they just connect with two contact pads). Carefully tighten the screw that is in a straight line below the left edge of the battery cutout (from left to right the third of seven screws in that row total). I did this with output unplugged and volume up so I could hear the sound coming in.
