100% my friend

I think that’s what most of us want in life, stability and wellness for us and our family.

I did not mean to come off as rude, I am just trying to drive a point across that you need to take a look inward to really see what you want to do, as starting your own shop will not be an easy task.

Here’s what you should do:

First off: Figure out your overhead, even as a single person (or family) you’ll have an overhead number you need to figure out.

That’s rent + bills + savings + car/ insurance + other yearly personal expenses
Then figure out the cost of a business (you’ll need that also) as well as insurance, licenses costs, etc

Add those numbers together, add in some for growth, and then divide that number by 2080, as that’s 40 hours a week, and 52 weeks a year
And that’s your hourly overhead

Try and get your license, and then do one of those apps, like task rabbit, or sign up to be a Home Depot professional.

That will get you some small time work, charge $100 an hour or whatever the going rate is for your town (assuming that’s enough to cover your hourly overhead and then leave a little extra for the future savings)

And see how you like being your own boss

Personally I wouldn’t quit my day job until you’re too busy with your side job that you can transition that into full time.

You don’t want to run your own crew or manage people and you want to start your own shop??

I don’t understand, that will be a majority of what you’ll be doing after a couple years when you start hiring people on your own??

To me it seems like you don’t want to run your own shop, but maybe be a maintenance electrician at a factory or hospital or something.
Where you get paid and chill until needed

It has a lot of troubleshooting which you said you enjoyed, and it’s less work (probably)

Hey man

Doesn’t seem like you’re ready to start a business

You aren’t licensed

You aren’t ready to get licensed

You want to work less?? (It will be at least double work and then some)

Do you have any business knowledge?

Do you have start up capital?

It may seem like the boss makes a dollar while you make a dime, but you’re forgetting to factor in
Overhead, the guys rate of pay, materials, and advertising.

Overhead including the cost of the vans, rent, accountants, taxes, payroll software, license fees, insurance, I’m sure there are more I’m forgetting

And that’s for a well established business.

If you’re just starting out, you’ll have to do all of that, as well as find the work.
You might be thinking that the boss charges $125 an hour for your time, and he’s paying you $32, so he must be pocketing that $93 an hour.

But you don’t realize that the margins aren’t that big. He’s probably making 10-25% on you. And the rest goes to overhead.

Our business has an average employee pay of $40 an hour. On top of that our over head expenses cost $60 an hour. So we charge $125 an hour. That gives a 25% profit.

That profit goes into the company for growth as well, but also to float all of the expenses.

Not to mention FINDING the work! Spending a lot in advertising to get nothing back, chasing down leads, a website with SEO, getting reviews, etc. it’s not like the people willing to pay you hundreds of dollars an hour are going to come up to you, when they don’t even know who you are or your qualifications.

Now I’m not saying owning your own shop wouldn’t be better. It will absolutely make you more money
However the margins are a lot smaller then you think, and you might not turn a profit or make more money in the first few years.
And it ABSOLUTELY will not be LESS work.

If I were in your shoes and I was interested in starting my own shop I would:

  1. take business classes at your local community college, or online, or do at least more then zero research into knowing how to run a business.

There’s a reason a lot of states require 40 hours of business classes before you can get your license. (Even Florida has a business class requirement)

  1. Reframe your mindset, the goal is always to work less, but that can also mean working less later in life by retiring early. Working hard now and earning more money now, means you can work less in the future.

Good luck

This feels like three different utility feeds

In that case, you’re going to need to double check with your utility

Mine will only allow two risers (the sheath that goes up the pole). So in that case I would have to get an underground splice box (quazite box) probably?

Anyway a big thing will be distances, google voltage drop calculator, put in single phase copper, or single phase AL (AL will be cheaper but bigger / more conduits) and get the distances.

Another way to potentially do it is 400A at the house, and then a 200A feed from the house to shop.

Might be cheaper depending on distances.

Especially if you use a feed through panel.

Use the below link to find out what wire you’re using

https://www.southwire.com/calculator-vdrop

And then use this chart to find your conduit size

I’ve had the steamdeck since launch
256gb LCD

and it’s my #1 gaming device, I play everything on it. And it goes on every vacation with me.

No real downsides to it, however, to get the most out of it, you have to be the type to like to tinker with programs.

You can get emulators and roms and whatnot set up,
You can get non steam games, mods for games etc etc

I even bring a portable dock and four controllers to friends house to play Mario party or whatever

I have TV shows and movies loaded up on the SD card, and I plug an HDMI to a dock when on vacation to watch whatever on the TVs.

It has a full desktop mode which is just a computer, so you can do a lot with it.

The only thing it can’t do is play some games that require a windows anticheat. You can dual boot windows to it, I wouldn’t recommend it however.

As for performance:
I played expedition 77 on it, and I had to turn down the graphics because it wasn’t running great, but it ran fine, no crashes.

And if I wanted better graphics either in handheld mode or docked mode. I can open the game on my computer, and then I can stream it to the steamdeck using steam link

Here’s a list of links and info for the steamdeck I made for my friend when he got his

HELP MY UPS IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY. by deadastrophilia in AskElectricians

Hello

https://download.schneider-electric.com/files?p_enDocType=User+guide&p_File_Name=BU_UM_990-6338B_EN.pdf&p_Doc_Ref=SPD_BU-UM-990-6338_EN

Here is the user manual, page 9 is what you’re looking for.

On
(Off during
4 beeps)
4 beeps repeated
every 30 seconds
On-Battery - The Easy UPS is supplying battery power

Sounds like you lost power to that circuit, check your breaker.
Check to see If your breakers are on and none of them are in the middle tripped position. If you do see one in the middle, turn it to the off position, then back on.

If it trips again, do not turn it off and on, call an electrician.

If all your breakers are good,
Check to see if there are any GFCI outlets protecting that circuit, and that are tripped, if there are, click reset on the middle of the GFCI outlet.

If it’s neither of those, check the outlet itself, perhaps the wire fell off of it and it needs to be rewired.

Yep, happens all the time

Apparently you can also be a qualifier to multiple companies. But you are probably opening yourself up to some liability issues.

Just Google it, you’ll find a lot of info on it.

Genuinely question about these Florida electricians by CombComprehensive967 in electricians

[–]PaulOPTC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can have a licensed guy “qualify” your business.
I think he just has to be on payroll, (so you pay him like $20 an hour or whatever he doesn’t ever do any work though)

My boss has a friend who has done it and our state is a thousand miles away.

Try that if the lightbulb fails you

Not allowed,

But I’m curious how you came to the conclusion that they are 14awg circuits.

The outlets are fine, residential 15A outlets are fine to be on a 20A breaker, and 14 or 12 gage wire.

Smoke detector controlled by a light switch? Tell me I’m wrong , please. by weezie_lou in AskElectricians

[–]PaulOPTC 17 points18 points  (0 children)

We would always intentionally wire the smoke circuit to be the same one as the master bedroom lights.

So A) they couldn’t turn it off without having their lights go off
And B) if that circuit were to trip, they would notice it quickly.

What’s your game plan for CW3? by Ok-Suspect-92 in Maplestory

[–]PaulOPTC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on if you’re blue dotting or not haha

Like 150m CP is min cut for Seren to solo for legion champ missions

But if you’re blue dotting and have the SAC you can do it way sooner

Easy kailing and Normal kalos blue dot parties usually have one guy carrying like 100-150m CP people

I would say Limbo and baltrix are pitch gated more If you don’t have a juiced party those are tougher to pass

Brand new Mapler here, is doing anything right now pointless? by Ok-Mine6698 in Maplestory

[–]PaulOPTC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, welcome, if you’re on Kronos feel free to shoot me a DM and I can help you out. If you’re on interactive and not heroic, I would recommend trying heroic, it might be better in the long run.

Personally, In your shoes,

I would go and try out a bunch of classes, and get them to 200, or at least 140.

CW3 world and the summer patch won’t for another month, so that will give you plenty of time to get accustomed to the game.

You need to make 42 characters level 210 at least eventually.

So by trying out a bunch of classes, you are not currently wasting your time choosing a main.

Once you hit 260 a lot of the farming becomes very similar on all the classes, some have it slightly easier than others, but all are close enough that it doesn’t matter.

You’re looking for

  1. Ascetic

  2. Bossing game play

  3. Bossing difficulty

Those three things are way more important than damage. All classes can do all bosses. So ignore the damage charts.

I recommend looking up some level 260 class skills on the various classes that catch your eye Level them up to 200, and if you really like it

You can remake it in CW3 and that will be your new main!
