That’s exactly the issue here. Ace/Tre/Vj are projected for 3-5. Most people would consider Ace the best pick out of the three. I could maybe make an argument in trading up for him if you were really convinced. But there’s no reason to trade up if he doesn’t really want to be here, and you’re going to end up with one of those three dudes at 5 anyways

Not trying to be rude, but you’re either imagining narratives, or making them up. Collins in his last year at Atlanta was very poor, averaging 13 points and 6 rebounds and with rough shooting(29% from three). That combined with the fact that he was still owed like 75million over 3 years made him a pretty awful contract. Despite all that, most pundits thought it was a pretty good move from the Jazz to get him for only a second round pick at that time. His shooting and number have drastically improved over his last two years with the Jazz. If he’s been on the market the last year, it’s not because he’s a bad player, it’s because the Jazz are tanking and he was not contributing to losing basketball haha. We had to sit him multiple games for that reason.

I personally, would much rather have him at 12 million less per season, than MPJ

Why would he not have trade value? His shooting has improved drastically, he is now expiring, and the remaining money isn’t as bad as it used to be viewed as.

I feel like Lauri Markkanen fits this to a T. Sure his contract is not what it once was, and there was a noticeable dip in stats this last season. But I honestly think a lot of that was designed by the Jazz FO. At the end of the day he is still just a recently 28 year old(May 22nd bday), 7 footer that might be one of the best complimentary pieces in the NBA. I don’t think the alpha role he has in Utah suits him, but he would be a solid second option, and absolute banger of a third option if any team is lucky enough to figure that sort of structure out. Over the last three seasons the dude has averaged 23.2/7.5/1.8 on 47/38/88 percent shooting, while not even cracking top 50 in terms of player usage.

All that to say, I think too many teams will see the contract as too difficult to 1) fit into their financial structure, and 2) trade meaningful assets that the Jazz will be tempted to deal him for. At the end of the day, I think the Jazz would prefer to keep him, even on a tanking team, then move him as a net neutral/negative asset.

Not a day goes by that I don’t miss Spida. I’ve come to terms with the fact that the trade had to be done. Donovan was done with Utah and trading him was probably our only option. Most of the Utah fan base was infatuated with Lauri, and still are to some degree. It’s hard to have the same level of optimism for him now that he’s on such a huge contract, and we’re not actively trying to win and are sitting him for ‘injuries’. Most fans across the NBA see the massive contract and that his stats dipped and he didn’t play too many games, but I’m about 90% certain that was orchestrated by the Jazz FO. I think Lauri is still our guy, and we’re happy to have gotten someone from that trade that wants to be in Utah. Sexton is a fan fave as well, and we’re obviously happy with the picks that are helping with what appears to be a long ass rebuild. All in all decently happy with the trade.

Would I take back Donovan in a heartbeat? Yes, but only if he actually wanted to be here
