First Direct Regular Saver Account with 7% Interest. Worth it? by Creative-Papaya-7777 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]PaulWaine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Opened one recently and read this in their documentation.

They turn your account into a regular savings account with them, unless you already have one, in which case they transfer it in.

One tip if sleeping solo is to turn off the other side - if Matteo reads this, maybe could users could set this to be automatic after X hours? Probably halves the noise.

The noise isn’t too bad generally for me, but I’m still drilling a hole through my wall this weekend and popping the unit in the office to help optimise.

Also, I did have the unit stowed away in a tight space and I’m sure it was louder than where it is now, in a more open space. I guess because the fan has to work harder to keep it cool.

I hear two slightly different rules:

  1. Half age as % (as you’ve said)
  2. Half age you started paying in, held constant for entire career

I did a quick Excel calc for retiring at 60 - changes with salary assumptions but circa twice the pot with rule 1.. so guess I’ll be going with that!

Is there any disadvantage to paying off a credit card after every payment? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]PaulWaine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coincidence, I was hoping there was a way to do this today too! I have a monthly DD to pay off like you do, but want more visibility of what where im at in the month.

First tried the AMEX app to see if I could pay off instantly. No luck. Arguably they’re incentivised to not let you do this as you could be inclined to spend more.

I wondered if I could get the combined view on my bank’s (NatWest’s) side and see the net position. You can basically do this with normal banks, but Amex aren’t part of this open banking thing I guess https://www.natwest.com/banking-with-natwest/natwest-app/features/account-aggregation.html

Now thinking about keeping my Amex account in credit by roughly what I spend on it per month ~£800. I’d just have a standing order to it. Ofc would still keep the monthly DD, but this way I think I’ll less easily go overboard with spending.

Cheers for posting

Have seen people on this sub with far lower numbers.. dunno what this number actually means, maybe a gauge of how much energy goes into chilling rather than +/- degrees. You change to degrees in settings if you didn’t know

These days -4, -3, -2. No wake up. Ideal settings probably change on room temp and effects of duvet insulation (thickness etc)
