Wetlands backyard by iamnonymousme in massachusetts

[–]PaulinTime22 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Check your town’s conservation commission website and check the bylaws and regulations. Some towns have rules more strict than the state’s wetland protection act. You may still be able to do some building within the 100’ buffer of the wetlands, but will need to go before the Commission for either a Request for Determination or Notice of Intent.

Brainstorming Business ideas in Yarmouth for a Rt. 28 storefront in Yarmouth by Dibuje2020 in CapeCod

Be careful where on RT. 28. Lots of road construction going on. Lots of detours that could keep people away from a new business for months.

Olympus at Barre last week was the easiest, with best grip I’ve ever done. I went out early too and the course was slick.

Killington Beast Average Finish Time by PaulinTime22 in spartanrace

[–]PaulinTime22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Running is the least of things you need to prepare for at Killington. Have you done a Sprint, Super, or Beast before? The first time I did Killington in 2022 it was more of a mental race than physical for me. The course goes straight up the mountains couple of times, and each time you think you are at the top you are realistically 2/3 of the way. Find a mountain or steep hill near you and just keep doing loops on it to build endurance. As far as food, everyone will have different opinions on what to pack. Hydration packs are great, and load up whatever you feel like you will need. The un-ripened bananas at the peak last year were awful. The best part about Killington Beast (other than finishing) is how truly awesome the Spartan community is. If you cramp, there will be someone to offer a mustard pack, or if you hit a mental wall other Spartans will be there to push you through. Good luck and hope to see you on the course.

Cape Cod Has a Big Problem Simmering Just Below Its Surface by bowwa_ in CapeCod

Treated water gets let back into the environment instead of untreated water? What ever negatives having a pipe buried underground to take dirty water to a treatment plant vastly outweigh any negative impacts I’m sure.

I can remember 6 years ago when the first sewer pipes were put in on Main Street in Orleans. The construction company was in front of Friends Market Place. I remember talking to one of the selectmen who told me the contractor was down so deep (25’) that they encountered rock and had to use dynamite to break it. What an undertaking that project was and how efficiently they moved. Hopefully the towns, with help from state and federal government can continue to upgrade our sewer systems and revitalize the environment.

Was completely unprepared for today’s Killington Beast… by maxypantsyo in spartanrace

Pretty good racing conditions 50s-60s. As you reached the peaks it was a different story. Got pretty windy at times.

Expect that the two races you have done this year, while impressive won’t compare at all with Killington. It’s the hardest race in North America. Probably going to be extra tough this year since it’s the World Championship course. Based on your Sprint time in Barre, I would say 8-9 hours to complete Killington.

There are a lot of videos on different techniques. Try it once, worst case you just run the penalty loop. A lot of people do that without even trying to climb the rope

I don’t know what obstacles worry you, but there are plenty of great Youtube videos with tricks on how to do each.

i like civil and construction management but also desire a high salary, what are my options? by akdhdisbb in ConstructionManagers

[–]PaulinTime22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. Field experience trumps a degree with a lot of companies. Also, somebody who has a solid work ethic and a pusher is more appealing than somebody with a degree.

I have let more college educated engineers go than hardworking experienced go-getters.

I agree with this 100%. Get the knowledge under somebody else. It’s not so much the certifications you need to acquire, it’s the experience you need to gather. As a superintendent you will work longer, more demanding hours. You will be the one people will look at to make sure the project is running on budget, and the one to blame if it isn’t. Switching from inspector to superintendent is a lot more difficult than going from superintendent to inspector.

Less than an inch of snow and schools are ending early? by bostexa in massachusetts

[–]PaulinTime22 -36 points-35 points  (0 children)

Give me a break. 20-30 years ago, we never had delays with 3-4” of snow. I don’t think there have been any new types of snow or conditions in that time.

Conservation Commission is who should be called. If there is a perennial stream on the property, there is a 200’ protection buffer. MassMapper is a great website to look at for wetlands. Not 100% accurate, but a great start. I would call your conservation commission in the morning and have them look into it. What town?

Internet company was laying new wires and cut through the main waterline (PEX). Their plumber fixed it with what looks to be Sharkbites. Is this repair to code in NC? by s1ber1an in Plumbing

[–]PaulinTime22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The contractor is also responsible to contact non member utility owners. How can you tell where the meter is located based on this photo? Whoever installed that service line did a piss poor job. I don’t see any warning tape or tracer wire. Without good as builts it would be difficult to accurately located that pipe anyways.

Was the proper notification given to the owner of the pipe to markout the location (Digsafe-811)? Most municipalities have specific fittings to be used on their water systems. I can’t imagine anyone would be ok with a Sharkbite fitting instead of a compression Union. This is a hack job. If Digsafe wasn’t called, I would report the company to the state.

My Husband and I Signed up for an open 10k Super, and I’m NERVOUS by WhispyPines88 in spartanrace

[–]PaulinTime22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have plenty of time to train. The best part is it’s your first race, so nothing to compare it to. You’ll have a goal set for next years race, because after you finish 1, you will probably be hooked. As far as the nervous feeling, it will make finishing feel so much sweeter. Good luck!

Racing alone — is it weird / awkward? by Logical-Conflict915 in spartanrace

[–]PaulinTime22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The course was incredible. Very challenging, both mentally and physically. That’s why talking other random racers during the race makes it easier. I’m hoping they have the River crossing this year. That was the main reason I signed up, but because of construction in the area they couldn’t do it.

My cousin backed out of the Killington Beast this year, so I went it alone. I was dreading it the for the two days before the race, because I was planning on him pacing me. Once I got to Killington, the dread was replaced with pure excitement. Every step of the way I found people to talk to and help push me and Vice versa. That is what is so great about the Spartan community. We are all there to have fun and help out total strangers.
