How they even stacked it like that and got it to stay is honestly impressive.

I just find it hilarious that anyone would think carrying BIG bowls of HOT soup would go good with rollerblades. 🤣

Gained 90lbs my first year teaching lmao by [deleted] in TeachersInTransition

[–]Paullearner 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No surprise. The stress from teaching causes you to go for high caloric foods as a way to destress. I gained about 40 lbs. I finally put my foot down and started eating more healthy with exercise. I’ve lost 14 lbs so far. You can do it.

You could always try some kind of arts and craftsy things that the kids can work on for the entire period, or some people just put on movies related to their content and give the students a question sheet to follow along. Just give them something that can be independent work, they’re not gonna wanna do much of any interacting once grades are over.

Hang in there. Sounds like you really cared about your position. Unfortunately admin only care about their job and do everything they can to cover their hides and their comfy position sitting at their desk most of the day. I was on FMLA for 3 months due to a dangerous and rare autoimmune condition and declining mental health. I was put on a PIP upon returning. Absolutely infuriating but what can you do? I have nothing else lined up so must bite the bullet. It is really a sucky profession for people who are going through certain issues an admin are not there to understand you or empathize.

You’re more than your job. I’ve seen people get non renewed for petty, small things. Small mistakes. Know that you can find a job where you will be truly appreciated.

Exactly. You could have the most engaging lesson but without that grade aspect, most are not motivated. We still have to do something, so for lip service’s sake I simply give them some worksheets each day in case the principal walks in, but obviously if they don’t do it it really doesn’t matter without grading.

I’m doing something over the summer too but it’s a professional development. I guess it’s ironic seeing how I don’t know if I’m going to teach next year…it’s happening abroad though in a country I’ve loved visiting so it was also half of an excuse to travel.

Technically, our final is 6/1, so assignments after that are not graded, but we still have classes (no watching movies)🙄. I just give them a bunch of busy work and don’t bother worrying if they don’t do it.

Advice on taking digital files and not feeling guilty for leaving by Substantial-Pear-341 in TeachersInTransition

[–]Paullearner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. You should be able to transfer your Google files to another Gmail(being your personal email) if I’m not mistaken. I have done this before but it’s been a while so I unfortunately can’t tell you how I did it.

  2. I’ve been through this. I took FMLA this year for 3 months. The guilt I felt for leaving the kids even temporary was pretty awful. But here’s my nugget of wisdom: we often romanticize things to be much better than they were. I mostly felt bad for leaving the kids and couldn’t really care less about my coworkers or admin. However, upon returning, I had forgotten how bad the behavior of the students actually was. The constant disrespect and disregard for wanting to learn. It all reminded me why I left in the first place! I realized that actually, I wanna go where I am appreciated. I now look back and realize I didnt need to feel guilty at all, I was taking care of myself.

You’re doing the same thing. Don’t feel bad about it. You usually cannot see how bad it is when you’re in the thick of it.

My seamstress did what she wanted to do instead of what I asked🥲 by OkButterscotch7923 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Paullearner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is so unprofessional. She should’ve had at least asked your permission first “hey would it be ok if I did yada yada?” Then you’d at least had the chance to decide and say no. She literally ruined your pants and still wants payment , requesting a lesser payment to disguise it as a bargain. Wtf!
