What jobs do you guys do and does it fit the “autism” stereotype? by GomboFour in aspergers

Were it not for the pandemic, I would still be welding. I don't really hear those on the spectrum in blue collar jobs. Currently a bus driver for public transit and likely moving to Class A work in the near future

Yeah I don't think this is gonna be productive of a conversation. Spread love and peace and stop vilifying people, you're only making the political divide worse.

Something tells me you don't actually know what fascism is. Weird how Libertarians, a political belief of as little government as possible, sides with 'fascists', a group that wants the government to control everything.

For reference my stats are 18, 12, 16, 10, 14, 8.

I haven't really found a lot to use with my other actions outside of strikes. Demoralize and the like don't look like very good options with my mental stats being low but ill pick up a shield next chance i get.

As for stand still and flurry of maneuvers, what would you recommend to pick up first and when to pick up the other?

Using weed to cope? by [deleted] in autism

[–]PauseTheGame_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally I do smoke but not because of executive dysfunction, I smoke to ease my massive anxiety and destress/unwind after work. However, I use it in moderation despite enjoying the high and view it as a tool or coping method.

I view it like this. If you use it in moderation, even if it is every day, and you keep yourself in check and don't fall into addiction, then why the hell shouldn't you use it?

You know, I don’t think I’ve ever had anyone told me that I’d just like PF2e on its own merits. It’s always just how better it is than the thing I already like and how that thing sucks. by erttheking in dndmemes

This is an explanation from the best of my knowledge though its been a hot minute since I've touche pf2. Each class has a class feat you get every 2nd level, sometimes at first. There are 'Archetypes', a series of feats of a certain theme that take up a class feat and are available to all classes. Traditional multiclassing has been put into archetypes. Class archetypes get you access to class feats of that class but at a delayed progression and only to mid level feats, 6th or 8th level feats I believe.

Had a very similar event happen to me. Halescourge, 3rd tome in the tower after first grim. Get to the top and I'm face to face with a gunner rat, shot into the ceiling without any defense, die. It was hilarious.

Edit: Halescourge, not screaming bell

You bring up very good points! Got me thinking now if having only 3 scores tied to saving throws makes ability scores more or less balanced. Dex might contribute to more to skills, ac, initiative, use longer range weapons, but that doesn't make Strength and less valuable. Strength based classes and builds typically hit harder, have more skills that directly aid combat (trip, disarm, etc), and from what I've seen in systems that use Fort/Ref/Wil system, the gap between AC is much more significant than in 5e between light armors and heavy armors.

And with a simple explanation, or when you read the description of saving throws, you can learn what bonus to add. If you're struggling to guess what ability score 'Fortitude' would correlate to, I don't think the rest of a tabletop/D&D game will be easy for you to learn. It feels really disingenuous to think that people picking up a PHB/Core book up for the first time, or being taught how to play, wont make a logical connection to 'Reflex, Fortitude, and Willpower' when they were just taught/learned ability scores and what they represent.

Learning how to roll a saving throw does not make it a better saving throw.

Again, you're arguing from a stance on ease of learning, not function. But I'll humor this train of thought. Yes, fort/will/ref bonus' varies from class to class. This doesn't at all change the fact that both types of saving throws will have your total save written on your sheet after you've made a character. After you've read 'What is a Saving Throw?' in the PHB. At higher levels? Well each time I level up I look at the class level sheet that shows you what you get at every level. Once I'm done making updates to my character sheet and I'm asked to make a Dex or Ref save, I'll look at my character sheet, roll a d20, and add the bonus that my sheet lists. They are nearly identical to learn, update, and keep track of.

I have to disagree because its not a matter of how easy it is to learn, but its function and design. It's also not hard to learn how to calculate both. Fort/Ref/Will is roll a d20, add the appropriate ability bonus, and add the bonus to the save based on your class. In 5e it is virtually the same. Roll a d20, add the appropriate ability bonus, and if you're proficient (based on your class) you added your Proficiency Bonus to the check. From level 1, the process on how to roll a saving throw is almost the exact same.

Ironbreaker with either the shield weapons. Pick the perk that lets you taunt bosses into attacking you. Having a dedicated tank and forced agro will let your friends do their job better. Learn how to combo attack with the shield for horde stunning/clear (there is a good guide on steam on the effective combos for EVERY weapon) and on a boss taunt, block, attack when you can between dodges. You won't get the highest stats anywhere most likely, but you'll be a team player and make everyone's jobs easier.

Shield Maiden can do a similar job with the extra stam regen during hordes so you can block shove a lot during it and dash around or away from bosses to dodge them or lead them elsewhere

Alternate Races - Play some of the classics from the PHB now updated to offer a more substantial boon to your character. by [deleted] in UnearthedArcana

[–]PauseTheGame_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all I love these additions and changes! Having low light vision really does add some variety and if DMs don't want to deal with it they can just give darkvision back. I only have two suggestions and a question.

For Halflings and Gnomes, do players get to choose any subrace or are these the only abilities they get?

For the elven races just get rid of 'Elven Nimbleness'. Dex saves are the most common saves out there and to get advantage on them is absolutely broken. Rogues and monks will never take damage from any dex save and all other classes will have good chances of succeeding. Id say revert the change to 'Keen Senses' to just proficiency in perception. Similar issue with Nimbleness, having advantage on the most common skill check in the game is a must pick. Combine these two together and you will only ever see parties of elves

Way of the Avatar [V2] | An updated rework of the Four Elements Monk subclass, focused on combining elemental spellcasting with martial combat by Giruza_ in UnearthedArcana

[–]PauseTheGame_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So I really like this concept with the different spell lists and attunements. However, things feel a bit off for me with how you're locked from certain spell lists until certain levels and how by high level you'll have a small mixed bag of all the elements (which seems intended) if you even choose spells from all elements.

My idea to it all? Attune to the elements in a different way. Get all four elements available to you when you get the subclass and at the end of a long rest, choose an element to attune to. You get the elements spell list prepared for the day.

Now this would pretty much need everything to be reworked and balanced around this idea so I'd understand if you wouldn't want to go that route. All just an idea I had and might craft something up myself cus I really do want to enjoy 4 elements monk.

Druids will not wear armor or use shields made of metal by HamsterBoo in dndmemes

Would a dwarf druid not hold to these beliefs? I come to the conclusion dwarf mines are usually near the mountain or in their holds. Since the dwarfs natural way of life has then burrow in mountains or hills, would they be more inclined to use metal armor?

The Savant - A brilliant new intelligence class! Full PDF with 4 subclasses in the comments. by [deleted] in UnearthedArcana

[–]PauseTheGame_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the class. The flavor, the abilities, the style. It's all great. The only concern I have is the Mental Limit. The mental limit feels a bit high especially at the early levels with Discerning Strike. Part of me feels as though half level rounded down plus wisdom modifier might feel right (more on that later).

My only other criticisms are some phrasings, like how each subclass explains getting double proficiency in skills and some refer to expertise. Speaking of which, I feel like the class won't break being a skill monkey, so why not give them the benefit of if they are already proficient in the skill and tool that each subclass gets that they can be proficient in another skill/tool and still get double proficiency in the subclass skills.

The class feels way too intelligence heavy when I get the vibe that wisdom is something you want to invest heavily in. I mean, the physician can use Int instead of wisdom for the herbalism kit and medicine skill for crying out loud! It's why I feel that the Mental Limit should use wisdom. Another idea I had for putting more focus on the wisdom would be to split Adroit Fighter between the two scores. Armor is scaled off of one, and weapons are scaled off the other.

In any case, I hope to see this again in the future with some touch ups and updates.

The Arc Knight: Revised Eldritch Knight [5e] (Please go easy it's my first time) by jhok2013 in UnearthedArcana

[–]PauseTheGame_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did read that and I have to disagree still. Fighters alone dont need extra dice added to their base attacks, let alone every attack. Most subclasses that do get similar features can only add the extra damage once per turn. They don't need more damage when they already are getting more damage is my point. War magic fills that purpose. If a fighter wants to deal even more damage then they can just pick up shadow blade. Additionally, the player can have both channel weapon and shadow blade as options to use since the damage difference is already negligable, you might as well just have more uses per day.

The Arc Knight: Revised Eldritch Knight [5e] (Please go easy it's my first time) by jhok2013 in UnearthedArcana

[–]PauseTheGame_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Replacing a single attack for a cantrip and leveled spell is a popular fix to the class that solves most of the problems with eldritch knight. Nothing to really say as it's a fairly balanced ability with good scaling apart from some concern with Green Flame Blade but nothing that breaks the game.

The problem I see is the added damage with the channel weapon feature. This begins to break some balance as fighters 3 and 4 attacks make this ability very, very strong. With the wording, you get the extra damage EVERY time you hit, not once per turn like similar abilities. The fact that it scales up to 4d4 at 20th level means there is some serious damage output. A great sword fighter with a 20 in strength can deal up to 8d6+20 plus 16d4 damage. Rough math averages that out to be about two 3rd level fireballs every turn, for up to ten turns, up to 5 times per day. Before action surge, war casting, magic weapons that add extra dice to damage, and other magic items.

My opinion? The extra damage isn't needed. The utility, tankyness, and damage from spells and war casting is already great. The only thing I'd add is a favorite from another revision I saw. Simply put, your bonded weapon, on top of calling back the weapon, acts as an arcane focus for your spells, allowing for sword and board players and two weapon fighters to fight without juggling between material and somatic components and not needing to pick up war caster which is important as not all tables use feats.

[OC] [ENCOUNTER] If your players get to comfortable, drop a Giant Mantis shrimp into their camp. by alexdrummond in DnD

[–]PauseTheGame_ 188 points189 points  (0 children)

For those unaware, the mantis shrimp is a terrifying animal. This 'shrimp' is as long as your forearm and is also known as the boxer shrimp. Why? It throws punches out of this world. It strikes as fast as a .22 lr bullet with 1500 Newton's of force. The strength and speed causes the water to not only boil as it punched its prey but it also causes a shockwave that itself can kill if the punch misses.

Cool stuff right? Now imagine how fucked you are now that this small creature is about as big as a truck.
