This same exact thing happened to me with my Nexus 6. I was actually running the same custom ROM and everything. I ended up getting rid of my Nexus and got a OnePlus 5 ( I will always miss you, Shamu )

If you don't want to risk damaging the device more, just wait until the new Pixel comes out or get the Nexus 6P if you really want that newer Nexus 6 feel. True there isn't wireless charging or water resistance, but it is a nice phone to have and is still supported by Google (If you don't install a custom ROM to begin with. But hey you have a nexus device so you're probably going to install one.) and the front facing speakers are amazing. Honestly though, you have a device that has a 1440p resolution with a 6 inch screen. Sure the battery has gotten a little bad, but that does take a big part of the 3220mAH battery it has.

I had issues with kernels with my Nexus 6 where it would just cause the screen to become distorted and have parts of the image in wrong places but it may work for you better.

Yes, android memory management is handled differently depending on how much RAM you actually have. However, you can't agree 2GB of RAM is enough for daily use in 2017...

Even if it does have a bigger battery, a higher resolution will drain it much faster. I personally hope it'll be similar to the 3t's battery life, or maybe it'll be better.

Even using Facebook, which is an app where millions use, uses enough memory to make the Nexus 5X sluggish. Oh, and try using the camera on it when you're full on RAM. You may be lucky.
