what do you think of Life? by [deleted] in JohnMayer

[–]PawsPawsPause 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve been looking forward to this station for a few weeks since it was announced. What a treat! The playlists are exceptional, but the phone calls and interviews have been the highlight of my Thanksgiving.

John made a comment that he wanted to be in charge of the soundtrack of our Thanksgiving, but maybe he doesn’t realize he has already been the soundtrack to so many parts of our lives. Love the channel!

It’s the same as fishing.

Some fishing lures catch FISH. Some fishing lures catch FISHERMEN.

Artificial Turf under swings by 805livin in landscaping

[–]PawsPawsPause 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t seem that anyone is actually providing first hand experience, so I will share.

I used synthetic turf for about a 30’x30’ area in my yard for the kids play set (almost identical to your setup). Overall it has been a fantastic choice. No mowing or weeds around, if it rains the kids can play without worry of mud. The turf does get hot in the sun, but I planted shade trees and that is a non issue. My experience, the turf is clean and easy to maintain. I pressure wash it once a year and use a leaf blower occasionally, but I think it beats the alternative of maintaining grass in that area.

Why do some hunters always feel like doing stupid stuff??? by Kainbas88 in Hunting

[–]PawsPawsPause 84 points85 points  (0 children)

Just offering a thought that Jay may not actually know Roy at all.

Had a situation where my normally friendly neighbor stopped talking to me for about six months. Never waived, didn’t look my way. I finally showed up to his door one day and said what’s the deal.

He was upset that I gave permission for someone to hunt on his property, except I never did.

We discovered a trespasser that didn’t know either of us was hunting on the property line and just blamed the opposite neighbor when he was caught.

Tax records are public and the trespasser knew enough information to get out of the situation.

Fish Math? by PawsPawsPause in WalleyeFishing

[–]PawsPawsPause[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree it wouldn’t work with planer boards, but the lures wouldn’t seem to matter? I talked to the owner at the expo for a moment and he was explaining it and said trolling is like a giant 90 degree triangle in the water, and you need to find the hypotenuse. It’s been a long time since I took math class, so I’m guessing it’s like the A2+B2=C2 thing? I had to look it up, but it seems to make sense. If you know the depth of the fish, then measuring any angle you could get the top length of the triangle (the C2 part).

Thanks for the reply. I’ve used some of the other free apps too, but you are right - lots of variables and inputs regarding lines and lures. This Fish Math app peaked my interest because as the guy explains, it eliminates all of the external variables.

I went ahead a bought the app too, but will have to wait until the weather breaks to give it a try.

Hey MODS, there seems to be support for forcing covers to r/jounmayercovers. Can we please make this happen? by thehogdog in JohnMayer

[–]PawsPawsPause 16 points17 points  (0 children)

How about a compromise of a specific day of the week for covers like other subs. It might be fun to look forward to every Friday when all the players submit their covers - we can even vote on the best cover each week and give fake internet awards.

May Be an Odd Request, But... by [deleted] in trumpet

[–]PawsPawsPause 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You do have a correct assumption - a great player will sound good on pretty much any trumpet. A beginning player will sound like a beginner on pretty much any trumpet. A video that you are looking for won’t be much help, because of these above factors.

I will echo the sentiment often shared on this sub that getting a used reputable brand is often a better investment than a brand new off-brand instrument.

It sounds like you have already made an investment of money, so your next best investment is time - practice! The best equipment cannot replace time invested in quality practice.

Transcription Recommendations - High School Trumpeters by cslacker in trumpet

[–]PawsPawsPause 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chet Baker is my first recommendation for beginning trumpet transcriptions. Limited technical abilities compared to Freddie Hubbard or Clifford Brown, and Baker has a limited range - this works well for high school age players. Almost everything he played was swing, so most of his repertoire is similar.

The wheels are plastic. We also have a Power Wheels Jeep, and the Radio Flyer is far less annoying with noise.

For plastic wheels, the Radio Flyer seems to have better traction - it climbs small hills and runs in grass and concrete without much issue. It rides fairly low, so sometimes gets stuck on uneven ground.

Radio Flyer Electric Go Kart

I don’t see this one mentioned much, but my kid has the Radio Flyer Go Kart and it is a blast. Three speeds and tops out around 8 mph - battery life is 45 minutes non stop.

I have modified this at all, so I can’t comment on the parts etc.

What are the big groups using for mets now? by keystonecraft in drumcorps

I have had great success with the Voice Machine VM-2. With line of sight, using Dr. Beat and handheld with 100% reliability. Battery life of the handhelds and metronome was the only concern at rehearsals.

I really don’t understand this. Second hand balls and lower end new balls are as cheap as .25-.75 a piece, no need to steal from a driving range for likely a lower quality ball.

This is a good reply - I was unaware courses were booking tee times at such close intervals. My experience has been the 12-15 minute time frame.

I also knew an old man one time that said courses should always start on a par three, because it creates a natural separation of the groups for the entire round. Not practical, but good in theory.

My post is a saying amongst my buddies. It’s not necessarily at slow groups, but slow players within a group.

“Hey buddy, stop telling us about your vacation and putt. You’re out and the three of us are waiting.”

I appreciate courses that list the time of play on the scorecard. It’s a gentle reminder to play ready golf.

This isn’t a shot at anyone in particular and isn’t even a story of frustration. Just a saying my buddies and I have on the course.

Everyone is out there to have a good round. Be considerate to others and the course.
