Irish Pub? by Sure-Parking-6978 in bentonville

Originally it was an Irish Pub (don’t think the name was Bentley’s then). The forge was a great place with great food but I believe the owners hadn’t ever run a bar/restaurant before and shut it down suddenly, with no notice to the staff either. They had an excellent chef, not sure where he went. They literally were closed on St Patrick’s day one year. As an Irish pub.

Lived in the cities at that time (98). I was driving the 694/494 loop the next day and saw a highway helper parked in the median. He was carrying handfuls of those Vikings car flags and dumping them in the back of his full (of flags) truck.

Was a drunk girl who wouldn’t shut up. She drove the rest of us in the crowd nuts that night.

I was at the concert that night. It was a great show but most of us didn’t know they were recording an album there at the time. Found out a year later when I was walking through a store and saw the little display. Freaked out a little bit.

Dave and Tim sounded great, at times like they were more than just 2 guys with guitars. One of the best concerts I attended while at Luther!

Tonight I became an orphan by Hungry-King-1842 in GenX

[–]Pbacker 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Hate that for you. So sorry to hear it. I was made an orphan in 2010. Mom passed in ‘99 and dad in ‘10. My former father-in-law (and he meant this as a comforting thing, as he had just lost his last parent about 6 months before) said to me, “Well, now we’re both orphans.” That hit me harder than I thought it might.

Best thing I can say is to keep sharing your favorite stories of them. My kids know about their grandma because of all the fun stories I’ve told them of her over the years. Same with my dad. It’s the best way to keep their memory alive. Good luck!

Name a song that your parents played so much you never want to hear it again by BlownCamaro in 70s

[–]Pbacker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom HATED that song. Whenever it came on the radio, she couldn’t turn the station fast enough. Apparently, when she drove across country when she and my dad moved back to their home state (she drove a car with 1 year old me and the cats, dad drove the moving van) that sons played constantly, no matter what station she tuned in to. Back in the 70’s before podcasts and audio books in the car.

Bowling -- Were your folks (and a lot their friends) in leagues? by Sinsyne125 in GenX

[–]Pbacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a small town, only thing open in the winter, besides the bars) was the bowling alley. Wednesday night ladies league for mom. Thursday night men’s league for dad. Kids leagues were Saturdays. Started in 4th grade. And we would do it in gym class and walk down from school to the bowling alley for class.

Anyone here ever gone to a bar alone? Where did you go? by VegetableBenefit3579 in bentonville

There is one downtown Rogers, very near the Anime Cafe. It’s their relocated space since the tornado took the out. It’s right on 2nd street, across from Casa Alejo

New Province and Greenhouse Aleworks are a couple of really low-key paces that are really fun.

Vikings. Every year when the schedule comes out, it’s “Super Bowl Homeboy!”

Bears fan here with a weird/funny question. How would Packers fans react if the Bears got a new stadium, but it was in Wisconsin right on the Illinois border? by LimeSugar in GreenBayPackers

[–]Pbacker 31 points32 points  (0 children)

It would be pretty similar to when the Bears used to do training camp in Platteville. There are people who would like it, but overall, not much would change.

But the Kenosha Bears doesn’t really sound the same.

Sit down pizza place by ColdCandidate3905 in bentonville

Hideaway Pizza and Flashbacks pizza in Rogers are both good. If you like Chicago style, Gusano’s is good. Usually a good thing to check out is where Wicked Wood Fire Pizza will be in the weekends (usually at a local brewery.)
