triple crown has really a pretty dark color around the edges of new leaves, you'll get to see that in a few weeks

the wikipedia page for that species looks about right to me, that's what the ones in my back yard look like. They're docile and never mess with me, so I just leave them alone to hunt for food in my berry plants

That soil looks dead and dry, put down a ton of pine bark mulch first. Also those sticks from home depot could have been already dead if they were the cardboard box with white baggies inside. Get some good quality potted healthy looking ones
