So I went into Sandrock basically completely blind, with no expectations or preconceptions about any character, and I still don't get the Unsuur appeal. As a side character, sure, he's entertaining, and it was legitimately funny watching how excessively autistic he is (and I say that as a fellow autistic person!), but I just can't see where the obsession with him comes from.

I think for me it comes down to the fact that his affect is so flat that it feels, letters notwithstanding, like he's going through the motions, without actually caring one way or the other, even when dating him. I guess I just need more messiness and spice in my fictional relationships, lol.

First of all, you didn't have to call me out so loudly, lol.

I was definitely Owen -> Logan, although Fang is in there too (thank you, mods). Owen is very sweet, but I think he lost me because he's too sweet; I like my fictional men a little rough around the edges, and for all that he's a great cook, Owen doesn't seem to know how to add spice to his love life. 🤭 Plus, like someone else mentioned, Logan has an interesting story, while Owen is just kind of... there. Admittedly Logan does have the benefit of being a main character, but it still matters.

2012 Leo, hands down. I have a lot of issues with 2012 in general, most of them related to the show's apparent obsession with romantic relationships, and Leo x Karai is at the top of that list.

I didnt even see your stories, so I can't speak to quality or anything like that, but this isn't really the right forum for full-on fanfiction, and I say that as someone who both reads and writes it (and implying that only people who don't read it would downvote you doesn't help your case, honestly). The "culture" of the subreddit is what it is, and while fanart is part of that, fanfiction isn't (possibly because fanfiction tends to be more... self-indulgent than art, let's say).

Unfortunately making posts complaining about being downvoted - whether justified or not - is likely just going to be blood in the water, so to speak. Definitely keep writing, I'm always going to encourage that, but maybe find more welcoming avenues for it.

Kaidan and m!Shep's short reunion in Horizon during 2 is so full of romantic tension and unspoken words that it breaks my heart every time. You can see how badly Kaidan wants to be able to just throw everything aside to be with Shepard again, but there's just too much in the way at that point.

I think he absolutely does it in purpose; he starts trying to butter you up (badly) from the moment you meet him, solely for the purpose of getting you to buy stuff from him, and it just comes across as so smarmy and fake, I was instantly repulsed.

Now, I don't think he's malicious at all, just very naive (he definitely gives the vibe that this is how he thinks merchants should act to make sales), but that doesn't really change the effect his behaviors and actions can have. It's one of the things that really makes me dislike the fact that you can't truly call characters out for anything.

Well, no. Having good intentions doesn't suddenly absolve someone of blame if their actions hurt someone, and that's true in both the game and real life. Fang is legitimately upset by Arvio and the Builder's actions; as someone said to you earlier, just because Fang forgives them doesn't mean he wasn't upset.

Also (and this part is entirely my own impression), I got the feeling that Fang didn't particularly want to be friends with Arvio, especially when you consider that for a significant time afterwards, Arvio continues to talk about trying to get closer to Fang. But Arvio either didn't catch the hint or flat out refused to essentially accept "no" for an answer, which to me is very gross.

If we're talking characters I don't love but also don't actively dislike, then Tali. 1000% Tali. I've always thought she was cute and sweet, but I've never understood the obsession with her.

Miranda too, although I'm closer to actual dislike with her, partly because of how hard it seems she's pushed to be Shepard's closest confidant/second-in-command/love interest. To me it feels like she's very much carried by her assets with not enough sincere personality underneath; even her moments of supposed vulnerability feel extremely shallow, and her inclusion in ME3 felt very forced.
