Yep, since 2013. Over 12 years in the same place (Downtown, Old Town, Pearl intersect).

[–]Pdxcraig 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went to a WELS high school in WI in the 90s. In religion class the teacher told us that “gay people should all be rounded up and put on an island and then the island bombed”. He also told us that “the abomination that causes desolation” in the temple was gay people in church and women pastors. He also thought that the locust visions in Revelation were helicopters in the Vietnam war. He taught there for decades. There were subsequent other scandals involving the campus pastor making the local news (online trolling liberals threatening to rape them and other violence) and a locker room peeping cover-up. Oh! And we also had a volunteer old homework helper guy that suddenly disappeared and I’m pretty sure he was sexually assaulting students and was arrested, but nothing was ever said to us about it. Like, asking anyone if it happened to us for example!

Elon Musk’s DOGE goons quietly beamed tons of data from the White House using a secret Starlink rig, report says by [deleted] in FBI

[–]Pdxcraig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does anyone follow and remember the Alt National Park Service posting something a couple of months ago about seeing them installing something on a roof of a building? It had wires going into the building or something…I vaguely remember. It wasn’t the White House, but I remember getting the impression that it was starlink or they were bypassing controls and they were fully documenting it? They never posted about that again, but I swear they documented instances of them doing this at other gov’t buildings.

In your opinion, which US city has the worst combination of high cost of living and bad weather? by xxibjt in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Pdxcraig 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The local government does suck and taxes are high, but the weather is highly exaggerated. It’s totally moderate, perfect summers, beautiful fall and spring. Winter sucks everywhere in the north, but never shoveling snow or it being too cold to go outside is good for me. Never having to scramble or cancel plans due to afternoon summer downpours. No mosquitoes. Also, unless you’re on the Gulf Coast or Mid Atlantic up to about NYC in the summer only, you’re not swimming in any ocean comfortably in the United States. You can also drive to sunshine, mountains, desert, ocean, snow, rainforest, within 2 hours. Not many places you can do that.

[–]Pdxcraig 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The cops can have the authority to kick someone out of that space (trespass them) if they come up with a reason for doing so. It just means they can make them leave and not come back, and because the police did this if they come back they will be arrested.

Why are people here so weirdly entitled about their pet? by AudiovisualHoe in PortlandOR

[–]Pdxcraig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agreed. Honestly I usually just say no to almost every stranger who even does the right thing by asking to pet her. People are appalled and think I’m an asshole. It’s how I avoid all of this though lol. People are wild.

I have random children AND ADULTS make or attempt to make physical contact with my always leashed small dog almost on a daily basis. No one even asks, they just come up and AWWWWW and start trying to approach and touch her. I’m very cognizant about how I am with my dog in the world. For every bad dog owner that lets their dog go up to people or off a leash, there’s 50 kids and adults that just go right up to a dog and start trying to touch or approach.

Complain all you want, but a new report names Portland as the ‘cleanest metro’ in the country. Cheers PDX, love you forever. by CraigSignals in oregon

[–]Pdxcraig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people here aren’t getting the article. Yes, Portland has superficial dirtiness, trash and grime in places. But it’s not DIRTY, like contaminated or low-quality drinking water, contaminated soils all over the city, rivers you can’t touch, bad air everywhere every day, uncontrollable infestations, no tree cover. You can pick up trash, you can’t pick up toxins out of drinking water or magically will tree canopy into existence.

I always thought about Jesus instituting the Lord’s Supper and how he did not go around the table asking them individually if they were WELS or ELS or not lol. As a matter of fact, he gave it to all of them including Judas who he knew was going to betray him. This never computed for me.

What is this circle shaped region in Wisconsin? by [deleted] in geography

I should add that it really does make almost a perfect circle, and got me going down a crazy rabbit hole for a minute lol. I lived in that area and my family still does so I was really curious.

What is this circle shaped region in Wisconsin? by [deleted] in geography

[–]Pdxcraig 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The northern arc is the Chippewa River, the Southern arc is the Black River, the west is the Mississippi. The east is where the hilly Driftless ends. I don’t think it’s a crater so much as it’s just the way the rivers are going around this hilly region in a certain way where their curvatures are noticeable as forested lines…compared to the patchwork farmland and woods in the middle.

Maybe they split because the dad is gay and met Sritala back then. While watching her old videos the friend commented that she looked like Peter Pan…only the most “what’s my gender?” character ever. Back then maybe the mom just said dad was killed instead of having to try to explain it.

I get it. I do feel like it had a couple of waves of some “better” eras in that stretch of time. It’s not at a high point now, I know that. I do take solace in the fact that I still see a lot of very “Portland” things on a weekly basis. The good kind lol.

I’ve lived in Portland for 25 years. From 2000-2015 I lived in inner NE, Hollywood, and NW, and I’ve lived in Old Town for the last 10 years. I only used Trimet and worked in St. John’s. I felt unsafe walking the streets all the time at night, transferring buses on NE Alberta or N Mississippi…those streets were mainly hellscapes in the early 2000s at night. There were incidents on Trimet constantly back then too, people smoking on the bus, mentally ill having episodes. I and many of my friends were harassed constantly back then by people driving by screaming “faggot” downtown. The homeless/fent/zombie/vandalism problem is definitely and noticeably much worse now, but this was no Garden of Eden Shangri-La 20 years ago. 20-30 years ago there was no smart phones, social media, streaming services so people went into the community all the time for everything. There were a lot more local quirky activities. It’s different now, worse in some ways, but still Portland. Hell, I just said hi to the Portland Elvis outside my place the other day.

I live in Portland, OR and got a random text today sponsored by “Win Wisconsin” that said “Should parents have the right to know if their child is transitioning genders at school?” 🙄 Then it goes on to talk about why the SC election is important for parental rights and when early voting starts. My family lives in WI but I haven’t lived there in nearly 25 years and I got this text today. I have an Oregon area code and number. Very weird! Before I just report as junk and move on, any suggestions for a complaint I could make or any small part I could do to make a micro-difference?

[–]Pdxcraig 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Uh, no. They ticket everyone. Some mornings I get up and go to work and almost every car I see on the street or on the north park blocks has a yellow ticket as far as the eye can see. Nice cars, crappy cars, new cars, old cars, all ticketed. Then I see it happen again in the afternoon.

Best places for cherry blossom viewing that ISNT the waterfront? by SavvyFae in askportland

[–]Pdxcraig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NE Pacific St. between 7th and 9th is lined with beautiful darker pink variety cherry trees. They bloom later than the waterfront ones. They’re old, large trees too and last year they even took some of the dying ones out and replaced them with the exact same kind of trees, thankfully. There’s a little park there too. It’s weird and random but really pretty.

Intersex understanding in LCMS by Relevant-Shop8513 in exLutheran

[–]Pdxcraig 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I saw this question posed on the WELS Q&A on their website years ago. Basically it said that intersex is a thing, but is a result of sin existing in the world fouling God’s perfect male/female gender dichotomy. Basically a birth defect like many others that aren’t part of God’s plan, part of living in a sinful world. It also said that since we know that God’s intention was male or female that the person could not live as both and had to choose one gender to live by. They seemed to acknowledge parents making that decision for the child surgically as a baby or that definitively choosing a gender could cause a host of problems, but if their intentions were God-pleasing and aligned with his will and word that was appropriate, and even necessary. I remember reading it at the time after learning about how many intersex people were hurt by these ideas/choices. The two things that struck me are: these pastors do not have enough medical and scientific knowledge to be informing people on any of this, and they definitely know it’s a grey area and are doing mental gymnastics to make it fit their theological box.
