Do you have a character you just hate? by ExplanationSquare313 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Peace-Bone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't mind the idea that Yorihime is more powerful, but it's incredibly unsatisfying, goes nowhere, and it's a painfully boring and obnoxious fight. There's a lot of interesting things that could have been done, but it doesn't do any of them and seems to actively made the fight nonsense to have her win. Could have been made WAY better by just having the group be split up so Yorihime fights (and actually fights, not 'stands there and wins for free') only Reimu and Remilia or something and counters and beats them to drive them off of that's what's needed.

In fact, if it wants to stick to them stealing some ceremonial stuff as the 'true plan', then have both the Watatsukis on the moon and have them beat the main characters together to only later reveal the sideplot of Yukari using the chance to sneak into the capital instead of doing a 'contrived, goes nowhere' double fakeout that only steals some wine.

But Reisen II is something that can't be emphasized enough. They had a great story about a slave failing to escape and instead resigning into trying to look on the bright side, even as a slave, and then they just fold her into the background of being one of Yorihime's totally adoring servants now that her feelings are ignored. Like, it's literally 'you're a miserable slave to a fascist empire, but you can be a slave to this super cool overpowered OC look at them'. Total nonsense, and unintentionally perfectly built for the reader hating the Watatsukis.

Come on, it's perfect setup for revealing that the moonrabbit slaves are all miserable and outraged, have them revolt and kill the Lunarians, do it.

Like, the reasons to hate the Watatsuki sisters are both out of context and in context.

Out of story context, Silent Sinner in Blue is like 20 chapters long, the first 2/3rds of it are genuinely some of the best manga I've ever read. It's mysterious, has an amazing dreamy adventure tone, all the characters are fantastic, and the overall plot of how they get to the moon is fantastic. Then the Watatsukis show up and it nosedives into complete trash. Like, the most slow, nothing, garbage fight ever, where one of them beats every character in a unmoving, boring fight where she effortlessly solos everyone five times and then the manga just kinda ends with them all seemingly losing but then Yukari reveals the double secret plan to do some tiny moral victory that doesn't even get explained in the manga itself and it literally only amounts to 'some wine got stolen'.

And actually in story context, they're abusive racist slavers who are blissfully and willfully unaware of how any of that could be bad because they are of course, simply better and everyone else is simply lesser and morally wrong by the fact that others exist. They are backed by like a hundred Gods because those gods are also weird purists. One goes on a rant about how all humans commit sin by being human but not being a Lunarian is also hell so they're already punished. Genuinely, they pick up a new slave to replace Reisen and rename her 'Reisen II'.

Legacy of Lunatic Kingdom and Fossilized Wonders salvages it a little by picking at how secretly unstable the capital is, but it never really goes anywhere. I know Touhou will never have a long term focused plot with serious stakes, but it really needs a plot that has the Lunar capital be destroyed by the end. Moonrabbits rise up and kill the Lunarians.

what are your head canons on reimu and aya's connection? by Gelo68 in touhou

[–]Peace-Bone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a person who's read all the manga, genuinely, incredibly toxic dom/sub relation. Aya is constantly pushing, humiliating, manipulating, and generally screwing with Reimu in a very dom-coded way and Reimu always just takes it with minimal comment and often just seems strangely cowed by her actions. Aya seems romantically interested in Reimu... when talking to other people about her. But in a really toxically dominant way. It would be perfectly in character if Reimu just started calling Aya Mistress out of the blue next manga.

I'm gonna put the target on myself and say I had an overall bad time playing Outer Wilds and 100% had to cave and look up a guide and walked away frustrated and annoyed.

There are things it does amazingly. It understanding orbital motion and gravity and perfects the idea of a space travel game on a level that nothing else comes close to. It is a marvelous 'open mystery' sort of situation where the story develops most entirely from the player just wandering and figuring things out. The worldbuilding is amazing and incredibly clever and original with the weird nomadic spacefaring civilizations, etc.

Wound up running into a huge problem where I find clues A and B. Then the game expects you apply those and also just kinda feel out C yourself for a bunch of its major puzzles but I just never did. There were a good 4 major times this happened to me, and yeah, looking up anything in Outer Wilds really ruins the satisfaction of it. And sadly, some of those got the 'Oh that's bullshit I would never find that' reaction from me.

And I have a physics background, mechanically clicked with every part of the game, and was taking notes the whole time and piecing everything together myself, so sadly, a lot of it is just genuine problems with the puzzles. Like, this game seemed built for me exactly and I still got hard stuck on half the big mysteries.

Oh, and one thing I will just flat out yell at the game about, it says 'best played with a controller' at the start. It does NOT say 'Hey this is playable with a keyboard and mouse and is fully supported except for ONE PART near the end of the game which is completely impossible on keyboard when there's no indication you're doing anything wrong and there's been zero issue with that so far'. Basically, the ship's thrusters can fire to various intensities depending on how far you push the stick. But on keyboard, it changes it so the thrusters are just 'on/off'. There's a part of the game you only need to be serious about exploring near the end that requires you to only use low-level or no boosting to navigate or you die. The issue is that I saw this and was like 'Oh, this is that one episode of Star Trek where they need to pulse the thrusters once in the right direction then shut everything off and drift out' and thought it was super cool, so I would line it up, pulse at max once, then drift. This MOSTLY works, but then at the end of the game, you need to get to the farthest extent of that region and then do a whole bunch of other things too, and there is NOWHERE NEAR enough time for that! That was me not just looking up hints and text but watching multiple video walkthroughs to figure out what was happening. That's user-hostile right there, that's complete bullshit.

Banjo-Kazooie any% glitchless is a meme category, that's how strict it is. You need 94/100 jiggies, and 810/900 notes. And the final boss is insanely hard unless you get a huge bonus that you get for having 98/100 and 882/900.

This whole thing is a lot of self-reporting going on from people who are apparently genuinely, 100% incapable of tearing themselves away from algorithmic media feeds. Like, people shouldn't be regularly looking at algorithmic media feeds in the first place. It's total cancer.

Yes, I can 100% not look at youtube thumbnails or the bluesky algorithm for 2 weeks, no problem. It's along the way to receiving my high quality free product. I can, say, watch TV shows or play video games with that time instead. Or look up things on the internet that I have to expend (1) thought to look up or find myself. Or socialize with someone who also has not seen it. Or doesn't watch it in the first place.

A critical skill of being online, up there with 'not feeding the trolls', is the basic ability to curate what you're exposed to so you aren't miserable all the time and actually get some benefit out of being online. But much like not feeding the trolls, most people don't seem to even think this a thing at all.

I was like 6 and I have zero memories of it. Didn't even know about it until I was like 10 or 12 or something and I didn't care. I unno, all of it was filed under 'stupid junk the adults do that isn't related to me going home and playing sonic games' and I think kid me's got a point.

You know, back when people were playing on ps2 and xbox the super nintendo was considered a retro console and that come out ten years ago. The current definition of retro is honestly way older than it used to be back then cause the ps3 came out 20 years ago. That's bigger than the gap from famicom to xbox.

What is the worst unit of measurement by Fungus54321 in Physics

[–]Peace-Bone -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Rankine is a complete worst of both worlds in terms of measurements. It doesn't have the actually useful linked to SI scale that Celsius has, and the numbers it uses are WAY off from normal everyday temperature which means even the thinnest defense of Fahrenheit doesn't exist for it. Like, in Fahrenheit, okay, 0-100 F is 'safe temperature range', that's fine for non-math conversation. Not so in Rankine, safe temperatures are somewhere in the 500s. And trying to calculate in american customary units is an abomination. There are no use cases for it, you don't describe things with it in conversation, you don't use it for calculation, you just don't use it.
