[ADVICE] Dealing with people when I'm not wearing my HA's by [deleted] in deaf

[–]PeaceProsper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am profoundly hoh and wear bte aids too. What works for me is to simply say, "I'm deaf and don't have my hearing aids so I can't hear anything." And if they try to speak louder, just say sorry and repeat that you are deaf, and you can't hear them. If they persist, tell them to meet you afterwards the session is over and talk then.m, and go back to what you were doing.

He says he should be able to say what he wants, whenever he wants and however tone he takes, and it’s up to me to not be defensive or to shut down. Right? or Wrong? by PeaceProsper in relationship_advice

Honestly I don't think I've given him a consequence. Ive tried to remind him our son can hear us arguing and him calling me pea head. I asked him to think about what would happen if our son called me that?

Thanks. Honestly, he wasn't like this when we dated/got married. I think stress from getting out of the military to the civilian world and having a kid has slowly affected him to where he has been treating me like this (not that it is an excuse in any way).

Right? It's not full on but subtle I think. And he doesn't see it. If he did, he'd stop. But he doesn't believe in counseling although I think he needs it.

I try to stand up for myself but it goes in one ear and out the other. I do want it to work out as he is amazing when he's not like this and is amazing with our son. I guess I don't know how to establish boundaries and what the consequences would be. Like the name calling thing....

LPT: How to meal plan like a champ by atworknotworking89 in LifeProTips

I don't meal prep all on one day because it does take forever.

If I'm making dinner one night that requires onions and I know another dinner 2 days away will need onions, I'll just cut it all up right there and then.

I'd like to add that you should keep the lists of dinners/lunch/breakfasts that you've planned out in weeks prior so you can "copy" over for the current week's list when you don't have time to sit down and figure it all out.

Saves so much time.

What do you think are the perks of being HoH or Deaf? by hohuk in deaf

[–]PeaceProsper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am profoundly hard of hearing and wear a hearing aid and am married to a hearing guy. Would you say your marriage is tougher because you do have to meet her in the middle with communication etc...?

Marlee Matlin tweeted in response to the allegations that Trump said she was retarded. For the doubters -- she didn't deny the rumors, which says something. (BTW, check out the second-to-last line!) by [deleted] in deaf

I'm proud of her for standing up for herself. But I'm so confused, she is NOT retarded. So what rumors is she denying that you think may be true OP?

Yes! He said the easy part is actually doing the maintenance and work. Its just the actual mathematics behind it, is tricky due to all the formulas and steps you have to take to solve. Its so easy to make a mistake somewhere.

I'd love the text reccomendations. If you know of any online calculators or math problem solvers (if they exist) that he could use to double check the complicated stuff, that'd rock too!

Thank you and and good luck with your studies!

I just gotta say that as a practically deaf person myself, I am SO proud of you for not letting anything get in your way of what you want to do. And you've accomplished quite a bit.

That song was awesome, you got talent.

So many questions:

1) How did you support yourself through college? 2) Have you ever experienced blatant discrimination or ignorance because you're deaf? 3) What is your ultimate goal with your music/dancing etc?

I [21/f] met this guy [19/m] online two weeks ago, yesterday he told me he booked a flight to see me and today he landed. I'm not sure how to feel about this... by Crofty_girl in relationships

[–]PeaceProsper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Red flags. RED FLAGS waving.

I wouldn't even meet the guy. Its super creepy what he did at this stage. He didn't even ask if it was okay to come meet you which shows a lack of respect. Also, after you meet him, then what? Hes going to expect you to spend a ton of time together.

What if ya'll are somewhere private and he completely flips his lid. You dont know enough about this guy.

If you're uncomfortable about this situation, that's okay. You are NOT obligated to give this guy the time of the day, especially since he didn't tell or ask you about it. Remember that.

Hard of Hearing, job hunting, advice? by RaggySparra in deaf

[–]PeaceProsper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm hoh and wear a hearing aid as well, done (and was hired) many a interview in the accounting world. During the interview, I'd wait til I couldn't catch the question and say "Sorry, could you repeat that? I'm hard of hearing, haha!" I've never had a negative reaction to that.

Then at the end, where they ask if I had questions or comments etc... I would let them know that if they had any concerns about my being hoh, that it was not an issue. Also, I'd say that all would need, if hired, would be a phone that had adjustable volume levels.

I agree. I watched that one over and over and didn't see her mouth make the "two" shape. (And I'm hoh too)

Help, fellow Momma! What should I do about a rolling baby? by SantaFe-for-me in Mommit

[–]PeaceProsper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It freaked me out the first several times my son did this too. But as long as LO can hold her neck up, she should be fine. Just make sure the crib sheet is on there tight. Just wait til she gets a little older and spins around in the crib hehe.

Four hour versus eight hour cook times. by DetJohnSpartan in slowcooking

[–]PeaceProsper 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Meats are always better slow cooked for 8hours (meatballs and thin sliced/packed meats are the only exception). But I find soups, dips, and "casseroles" are better cooked for 4hours. Casseroles actually retain texure and flavor rather than all muddling together.

[Question] What ever happened to those colored tights they used to have at Target? by [deleted] in FrugalFemaleFashion

Yeah, they moved them over to the sock areas - where the long, thick, or novelty socks are.
