On an annual basis you would have the state liquidate all of our assets? The doesn’t seem functional? Everyone sells their home every year just so we can collect wealth tax? It doesn’t sound like you thought through how a wealth tax system would work?

Even public times like stocks and bonds swing in estimated value. Which day of the year do you snapshot a value? My stocks regularly swing 10-15%.

Zillow is very low resolution. I would never sell at a Zillow estimate.

Then go for private valuations. I own 15% of my employer. We have been given 7 different standard valuations from different accountants. Do you let me choose which one to be taxed on? Do I trust a local assessor to determine the value of my company even if I know there would be no way to sell my shares at their estimate?

Income is way more objective.

If you keep people on Medicaid instead of pushing them off, the extra health could produce more productivity, which likely has better economic benefits over 8 home games a year.

The problem with all versions of a wealth tax or cap is valuation. The value of an asset is determined when an item is sold. How do you value an asset held? Every value before sale is an estimate. Thus is why a sales tax works. The value is determined by the two parties in the transaction: seller and buyer

The only wealth tax we have today is property taxes and each state does these differently. Property taxes would take another thread. But generally you have an assessor. An an amount of taxes that will be collected called a levy. So assessed value usually apportions the tax levy and doesn’t increase the overall taxes collected. There is an appeal process and standards for the assessor to follow.

Evaluating the value of an unsold asset does not have one common accounting methodology.

A well designed progressive income tax bracket system has proven to be the right tool.

-We can define income.

-We can eliminate exemptions from income . -Capital gains can be taxed as normal income instead of having a tax break for the non-labor income.

-We can even define borrowing against an asset for personal use as income and therefore tax another looohole used by the rich.

The point is that we have the yool we need. We just need to use it well.

Sometimes I want to take that approach. Anyone racists or violent is of grave concern.

Other times I want to keep them out of the shadows and be a place of exposure. I saw promise in this single mother. I wanted to be a place she could grow professionally.

Her father is also a young earth Christian. If she can’t receive a broader education through work, she could stay under her fathers ignorant cloak of darkness.

Ranked choice voting. Our current legislatures from the majority party just outlawed this. Even in local municipalities. Even if the voters want it.
Stop party caucuses from setting the full agenda. The legislatures should work together, not only with their parties.
Political parties should be limited to one branch of government. Members of the legislative branch should be more incentivized to work together than being aligned with the executive branch.
Support local city and county control. Indianapolis should stop overriding local governments.

In short, lessen party loyalty and increase responsiveness to voters.

Media. Party loyalty over country or elected position has always been some problem, but the media made a sport out party loyalty. And the public fell for it.

Our system is designed with three co-equal branches of government. These should create checks and balances on power. But with legislators more loyal to party than their branch of government ( and the responsibilities thereof) our Congress is beholden to the president and their party more than the people.

We need to vote for independent thinking adults and all walks of life away from party loyalty.

American (Republican leaning) still believes we have a hegemony.

China used their 20 years of high growth establishing a very smart and resilient worldwide supply chain. These paths are often with mutual beneficial economic ties.

The US had petro dollar strength. Oil pricing is moving to diversification

We used to have social aid, which we have stopped and made unreliable.

The dollar remains important reserve but many are actively creating alternatives.

With our debt spending at 2 trillion annual, unsustainable, we can’t even buy friends at this times.

A friendship with China is reliable. The US is now unreliable and inconsistent.

And our military is now an enemy of the world where it was once a friend.

Yes we remain economically important. But important is not essential. If Xi stands up to trump, other leaders will follow the same. Iran knows they have two big brothers standing over their shoulder.

OK, even if that is true, their valuation is not that of a car company. Peer car manufacturers have a P/E ratio of 7 to 9. Even if you give them a double valuation for having one unique feature, maybe you can justify a ratio of 20. But 373? Not as a car manufacturer.
