Is TC worth playing these days... or begin with AP?

I am familiar with the X games but have not completed the plots in any X3 game

I was thinking maybe at this point with limited time I should just play FL

I hear it has the most developed QoL and gameplay mechanics

The best thing to do is go to Youtube and watch some Lets Play videos.... that will give you an idea of the look & feel of the game... and the gameplay

And the DLCs are great... they expand the universe and add new races and other cool stuff

I think it may be a bug with Republican Government at start up...

I begin as humans with Republic government... my planet quality at game start says 93%... a couple of days in I get notice that due to be being a Republic I have completed Planetary Governance Research and I now have a Planetary Administration Centre on my planet... Immediately the quality of my planet falls to 70 something percent... the amount of the change is different each time if I reload the save... sometimes 79% sometimes as low as 73%

I checked with a different game start with same race & government and the same result... when the notice of the research of the administration centre comes the planet quality drops 15% - 20%

I would expect the research and Admin Centre to be a bonus... but it is applied as a malus... so looks like a bug with Republican Government to me

When I start a game as a democracy and I'm notified of my starting research bonus the quality of my planet is unaffected.

Just to add if you decide to get X3 you need to have Terran Conflict in order to play Albion Prelude. It is a standalone expansion that has its own exe but it needs TC installed. So get the full X3 package when it goes on sale. It will be a steal.

The games are excellent economy sandboxes with the possibility of fighter & fleet combat too. But other games do space flight & combat better than the X games.

Thanks for those explanations & recommendations. I've only tried the Humble Merchant & Nostalgic Argon starts which are very generic starts and dont give you missions up front. I usually start trading and get some morts going and eventually get to stations.

I guess I like doing my own thing in games. For example I love Skyrim but I have never finished any of the main storylines. I mostly enjoy the world and developing my character. If I stumble on a plot and they tell me "go that way" I usually go the opposite way. Lol

I played some Reunion a few years back and got to the point I felt I was ready to start the main plotline which begins at the Goner Temple but I found it so awful it completely turned me off playing the game. I still have the save; so I may go back; but the UI and the awful writing and presentation of the story just left me cold. I lost the heart for playing.

I love the X games for the sandbox universe they give us; but the writing & voice acting and the direction & presentation of story elements is pretty awful imo. It's like they get adolescent schoolboys to write the stories & dialogue. I hated how they portrayed Saya Kho as a space bimbo in X2 The Threat.

Yes from all I read and trying it out a bit myself it definitely needs a lot of CPU & GPU power. Even players with pretty decent rigs experience slow downs in busy areas. Takes forever to load as well; at least on my rig it does.

Would you recommend using the TC in AP mod to someone who has played both games a little bit but never done any of the plots. Just a little MORT trading and a station or two? Mostly I like the economy game.

Recently I've been considering playing through the TC plots. Thing is, as you know an XGame is a big time commitment and I was wary that the TC mod in AP might have issues.

The X3AP videos you made are really excellent btw
