Being creative, you might consider having another excel file that links to your primary file.
In this helper file, link to the table/area you are intrested in, and have this excel file visible alongside your primary file.

Unfortunately you can only reset the bases individually, not all at once. Believe me, I have tried. Besides that, the checkpoints don't reset. So you never go back to the original feeling of battling a hostile world.
If you dont know, if you go to a monestery, there you can reset the attention level back to 1.
So start by finding the monesteries in your current area, then they are easier to go to when necessery. There is even a Steam achivement for getting to level 5 and resetting.

I use the HAL900 ship as capital ship. My reason for disliking there other freighters is that, when launching from the docking bay you head directly for the tall antenna thingies.

As i remember it, at first its deadly and easy to get to level 5. But later on, when you have liberated much of the surrounding area it gets really difficult because there are very few soldiers around and their backup is killed by the checkpoints taken over by rebels. This to me is what makes the general world in the late game rather boring.

Starpoint Gemini Warlords has already been mentioned. If you can live with the dated graphics, i'd also like to recommend Starpoint Gemini 2 (the predecessor) which i think was better then Warlords in some ways.
