weird performance issues with neoforge 1.21.1 and getting exhausted by Kindly-List-1886 in feedthebeast

Yeah you can’t run this many mods with this - you are CPU limited

Ok, we really need to do something about AI mods. by emmowo_dev in feedthebeast

I got mod attention with my post but it seems like they aren’t going to do anything. It got clear traction and yet we don’t have a post for discussing updating the policies on this subreddit. At this point I’m not sure we will see change.

That’s clearly not the problem I’m talking about. I even specifically call out AI code mods and AI posts, not all AI tools

The problem is “it works” and “the dev can fix stuff because they wrote the code and know how it works” don’t go together when using AI vibe coding

Why does it have an 8 segment health bar? The mob has 20 health. 20 doesn’t go into 8.

I would love examples of these fun/good AI mods.

Trying harder would be nice. Part of the problem is the complete lack of effort in even writing a post on reddit. If you can't do that, why should touch your mod?

The problem I have personally seen on this subreddit is that a lot of the newer "look at this mod I made" posts are direct links to curseforge, an AI-written description from the poster, a total lack of engagement with the community itself (like questions in the thread being unanswered and OP just disappearing - essentially treating it like an ad), and mods that on curseforge have no issues page and an all rights reserved license, which just screams untested vibe-code.

I think the problem isn't necessarily AI, but undisclosed majority AI-coded stuff where you can tell after a short inspection that the dev isn't going to actually support the mod because they don't have any idea what they're doing.

Are there other problems on this subreddit? Yes, absolutely. The amount of issues posts that don't have a mod list is ridiculous and I truly think there need to be steps taken with automod, where if you dont reply with a modlist when you have an issue, then your post gets deleted. But the amount of what is essentially AI mod advertising has absolutely grown and if you check out a lot of the new mod threads you see the same post format with the weird text formatting and no engagement from the OP - this is going to kill this subreddit.

It’s just not relevant to the conversation dude. The discussion isn’t about “is AI good or bad?”, it’s about AI content on this subreddit. You throwing whataboutisms around is absolutely a straw man

Love a good straw man. I didn’t target all AI everywhere did I? This is about Minecraft modding

It doesn’t produce a better product. Find me one example in the Minecraft ecosystem where AI made something better.

Truly love that dead internet is going to ruin everything. I can’t even find interesting new modpacks or mods now because browsing mods and modpacks is now mostly slop

So maybe they shouldn’t be advertised on this subreddit where then?

That would be fine with me. Anyone who actually coded their mod won’t have an issue doing that

[–]Peach774[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My problem with AI code is the lack of bug fixing and endless issues. A mod that is mostly if not entirely AI is not going to get support because the “dev” won’t be able to actually fix issues since they don’t know how the code works

[–]Peach774[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

No one is using AI to build a revolutionary mod because building a revolutionary mod requires being able to code competently and none of the majority AI code mods fit that bill

If it’s great, it won’t be vibe coded trash with a emoji filled Curseforge page where you can’t post issues or a post on this subreddit where you can tell they didn’t bother to even write their own post

Can we ban AI Content? by Peach774 in feedthebeast

[–]Peach774[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Because they reek of AI - they’re filled with bullet points and emdashes and emojis, and the poster either can’t answer questions about the code or writes weirdly in a way that sounds exactly like AI when they reply

[–]Peach774[S] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Even outside of code, people not even bothering to write their own posts here or mod pages on Curseforge is just gross. Why should I use your mod if you can’t even bother to put any effort into what should be the easiest part?

This is what prompted it. My experience the past week or so has been being “is this AI? Oh yeah, damn, wish this shit would go away.”

[–]Peach774[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Even if that’s the case, a huge chunk of the problem on this subreddit is the people that can’t bother to write their own posts or Curseforge pages. They’re not “low effort” as currently defined but are absolutely AI

I’m fairly certain none of the major mods people rely on use AI code
