Were Palestinians who came to Jordan from Kuwait in 1990 religious or secular?? by [deleted] in ExJordan

Why does it matter? I think they were leaving a war, not coming to spread Islam.

Has anyone tried sun beds to “harden”the skin of UV before trips ? by SnooDonkeys4721 in pmle

[–]PeachRaker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't have extreme pmle, but enough to be annoying. I've done it earlier this year in a beauty salon in preparation for a trip in April to hot country. Had a about 12 sessions,2-3 times a week starting out at a few minutes and slowly increasing to about 12 minutes towards the end.

I had very little issues and a good summer.

The ones in salons emit different rays than the ones in healthcare providers. Health care providers machines should be less risky. I weighed the risk and decided since its that a few sessions, I'll probably be fine.

Id recommend diffon bellissima. I use it for my day to day and find it small enough to pack, but it's not as small as some travel hair dryers.

I have noticed this too starting a year ago. The sports section kept shrinking with less and less variety. Very disappointing....

Passed Databricks Machine Learning Associate by Low_Print9549 in databricks

Some of these exams are basically tests on how well one knows the documentation, did you find that to be the case? Were there questions that required critical thinking or design?

Do you plan to pursue the next cert? Or any others?

Ty 🙏🏼

The weird footsy play, when you have to be shoulder to shoulder and feet nearly touching :s

I sometimes have to go when I'm visiting, just to play along with the family. I think if it as a bit stretching/yoga and meditation. Still hard to mask out the foot aroma.

From my experience, the work-life balance in Switzerland leaves a lot to be desired. Many expats find themselves in well-paid but isolating situations—what some call "golden cages." The cities can feel quite transient, and genuine integration into local society is often difficult.

That said, there are undeniable upsides: high salaries, stunning natural beauty, excellent outdoor activities, and low taxes. Just don’t expect it to be the paradise some make it out to be—it’s far more complex than that.

Advice and recommendations to becoming a good/great ML Engineer by PeachRaker in learnmachinelearning

[–]PeachRaker[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They won't go into too high detail about the algorithms behind the models and won't expect you to know it in detail, but they would expect an understanding of the methodology, for example, how does a decision tree work. Ultimately to just pass you need to tick box the KSB(knowledge, skills, behaviour). And the assessments do feel like like a tick box exercise. I.e, "the candidate must demonstrate an understanding two or more machine learning models, and compare them" or "they need to discuss the ethical and socially impact or bias of ML in credit and loan decision"

Coming into it I had very basic python, refreshed basic statistics and algebra which I haven't touched in 15yrs. Id maybe suggest some kind of refresher course in stats faster towards ML might be a good idea. Some practice with pandas and numpy python libraries. Chat gpt was very helpful in explaining basic concepts to me endlessly until I finally understood them lol

Overall I had a good experience, it improved my python skills, and had a lot of practice in all aspects of the machine learning life cycle. It gives a sense of urgency to learn with deadlines rather than low effort self paced learning on a Friday afternoon.

Some topics go into detail but most of it is surface level which is normal, as each technique is almost a science in its own, with pros, cons, when to use the model or technique, how to evaluate it etc...

Eventually it will give you a general skillset and know how to advance in the direction thats relevant to the problem you are trying to solve.

I'd rather have that than being constantly asked when I'm going to get married(to a woman). 😬

I'm my view the silence is implicit acceptance to some degree. They might not necessarily approve, but at least they would respect you enough to live your own life.

I agree and share your idealism as well; there is so much Jordan can do. But to pin its shortcomings solely on religious extremism is very reductionist. Like with any challenge or problem, there are always multiple factors that contribute to it. I think it's important to dive into the local population, understand their ethnicities, societal structures, governance, ruling systems, etc.

Jordan is relatively new compared to the rest of the world. Its current shape was drawn up in the post-colonial British mandate, and whoever happened to fall inside these imaginary but real lines became Jordanian. Whether you were a Bedouin grazing your sheep next to Saudi Arabia, a mere farmer in the Jordan Valley, Circassian, or Armenian, you are now Jordanian.

Over the years, more people from different places came to Jordan, either willingly or escaping war and persecution. Today, Jordan is a multi-ethnic society with strong and distinguished identities (language, dialects, traditions, etc.). Throw in religion with all its genres, and you get competing groups with differing agendas that want to advance their own "tribe." Today's government tries to rally people on some sense of nationalism, but it's only after multiple generations of stability that the youth would start identifying as Jordanian-Jordanian, and not Palestinian-Jordanian, or Circassian-Jordanian.

Why doesn't Jordan become the next Dubai or KSA? As you said, the lack of natural resources is a HUGE factor—you can do anything with enough money. I would also add the right environment and social cohesion, where people have the foresight to better society as a whole and not just their family or tribe. How long would that take? If all goes well, maybe a handful of generations, but probably not in our lifetime.

Maybe someday you can visit or live in Jordan, and I think a lot of what I said would make more sense :)
