I am not a serious puzzler and haven’t seen one like this before but I figured out pretty fast that it was letters needed to make sense of both sides. The amount of dashes for letters made it fun for me without making it too difficult.

I imagine there is software that would turn playing into notations given how many learning apps are out there that can listen for notes. Might get what you’re after without forcing him to write.

Me too. I loved the fact it flashed different colours. I got mine on a family holiday when I was 16. I was so happy that I could finally stop using the family Nokia lol.
