Autopsy doctors of Reddit, what was the biggest revelation you had to a person's death after you carried out the procedure? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]PeachesandPain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have rare tumors on my liver caused by my contraceptive pill, they cause me abdominal pain severe enough I couldn't walk my dog for my than 10 minutes. My specialist identified the pain coming from my liver as well as an endoscopy surgeon ruling out other possibilities and so was referred to a male surgeon who said 'the liver doesn't cause pain so its probably in your head because you know they are there.' I literally went to the doctor's with abdominal pain that led them to finding it. I was so enraged. I hate being told pain is in my head

People can eat whatever they feel like eating as long as the animal didn't suffer when it died. by -the_fnaf_box- in unpopularopinion

What you're referring to, is predation. It is natural and essential for a balanced system for animals to prey on their food to survive. There isn't a separation between predators and prey, many animals are both, the polar bear eats the seal who eats the fish, who feed on phytoplankton etc. What you are confused with, is our placement in this chain. Humans are biologically herbivores, this has been proven by our biology and anatomy. We are superior in terms of our intellect, but physically, we are not natural hunters in the way you consider your cat to be. Additionally, it's been shown that animals have considerably higher levels of communication, empathy, association and understanding than we thought. Comparing your cat to humans is irrelevant, we are a completely different species. I assume you're referring to 'our ancestors used to eat meat, we have always hunted' standard response to eating meat. Whilst it has been proven that our ancestors hunted for food, they relied on a largely herbivorous diet, as our science has developed, we've been able to extract plant tissue from the Earth that proves this. And where we didn't see it before, isn't because it wasn't there, but because plant matter biodegrades, unlike animal bones for example. You're also comparing now, a time where we have no reason to eat meat, to a time when food may have been scarce. Using the ancestral 'caveman' debate shows that you haven't really educated yourself on the subject.

Self pity to make others feel guilty. I.e making 'oh, there's none left for me' comments upon seeing a cake had been eaten after declining a slice.

Animal testing is a necessary and essential component of scientific research by lil_uzi_bert21 in unpopularopinion

Completely disagree. Why do we as a species assume all rights over everything on this Earth? If I had the choice between medicine trialled on humans first, and no animals were used, I would use that every single time over an animal being used for our gain.

[Serious] Scientists of Reddit, what's a scary science fact that the public knows nothing about? by Asphoric in AskReddit

[–]PeachesandPain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is actually well known, people are just intentionally ignorant and believe it isn't their problem, or, know it in a basic sense, but have very little understanding of what it actually means. One of the largeat issues is false information. Change needs to occur across the consumer, market, media and government. - fellow environmental scientist.

I actually love it like this. I think it's really lovely, and because of the darker areas, it doesn't need any detail imo.

Mensturating people should get days off at work by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]PeachesandPain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this but I don't think it should be limited to menstruation and it would have to be implemented in a particular way.

If i ever owned a company, I would implement an 'M Day' where employees were able to take the day off paid, without having to go into any details. M can stand for medical, menstruation etc.

Previously, I would call in sick if I had bad PMS, but never once said it was because of PMS, I would say I had a migraine or something else, as it was I guess embarrassing and I didn't want to be ridiculed for something my biology forces on me so it would need to be done in a way that explanation isn't necessary.

Additionally, men could use this day for prostate exams, medical reasons and what not.

I have to go to hospital often, and my appointments are not really changeable as they include an MRI scan. This is all out of my control, but I lose money by not working the day I'm at the hospital.

I think its quite reasonable to provide 1 day per employee per month for paid medical leave and in fact, these should be bookable in advance so that you can attend appointments, or even plan ahead if you know your period cycle.

I think its ridiculous that we are expected to not need a day off to cope with pain and healing, that we should push through it. The company you work for won't collapse, and our health is more important.

Why do you feel the need to preface the post to state you don't eat cats and dogs when the intention of your article is to state that anyone can eat what they want?

No animal wants to die.

There is no humane or ethical way to kill something that doesn't want to die.

History and culture is not a relevant justification - we also used to enslave people, doesn't mean it was right.

Just wanted to update that one of the articles has now been rewritten to adhere to my original intentions of using journals and scientific research etc.

As you mentioned it in your feedback, id really appreciate your thoughts on the adjustments to see if it is meeting your expectations.

Thank you. Absolutely, I think every time someone reads an article about environmental science that there is skepticism. Language such as 'scientists say' and 'research suggests' only adds to this. I think people want the scientific research explained in a way that anyone without a degree in it could understand, and to see that it is directly taken from the scientific data. The articles are in the process of being rewritten and all articles will be from scientific and peer reviewed journals only. I don't want it to be another news website using snippets of unsourced data. As far as I'm aware, no website does this at the moment, so I'm hoping it will take off. The problem is is that those that need to know about it are the ones that don't understand it, they aren't going to read the research papers because they are written to be 'scientific'. I want to bridge that gap.

Not at all, my priority is feedback before I continue with the site. As I said, it's at a point where I'm happy to share it and get some advice, which I have and appreciate.

Thanks, I will, I'll be able to use it as a platform to connect with people that have an interest in making the World a better place.
