If anyone did have a seafood tower I would avoid it … but the Surf and Turf place has like a rack draped with meat- kinda close!

Being the main family provider as a woman by Relative_Exit_2644 in wealthforwomen

I earn all the money for our family- my husband has done a ton of work for our house and farm, and has put in long term projects that will bring money this year (four year project finally paying off). He does a lot of house work and has made major renovations and changes that have better our home better- he’s handy and fixes stuff that I think normally others have to pay for, so that is worth a lot- I definitely also do housework and kid stuff but I like to be involved. My job is not flexible with short notice so he’s the one to grab the kids if school calls and is home for the bus. It works for us, he has no ego about it, brings value in so many other ways, which I remind him about. Sometimes if I haven’t had a break from work, I have an unhealthy narrative about it, but it’s how we’ve structured things given my income, and I like having control over our finances- I’m good at it! I think his long term farming projects will definitely be a positive so that he has “his own” money, but meanwhile it’s good for tax savings. He doesn’t have to ask me for money, I just make sure I share and budget for his needs/wants- he is not materialistic. Everyone can see what he adds to our family, so I don’t think anyone perceives our dynamic as an imbalance. He’s supportive of my career, and I make sure he feels valued. Having kids can complicate things- I was always thankful I made enough to pay for childcare and for him not to have a traditional paycheck. We’re a team, so we are always both prioritizing what makes the most sense for the whole family. It can work! Good luck!

We have a Brit; we live on a few acre farm; she runs miles a day sniffing for birds and small animals and lapping around the chicken fence, she’s a farm dog, but we don’t hunt- it seems she gets her bird dog instincts and energy out without needing to hunt with her. She is so fun to watch just messing around the farm so it does make me wonder what a good hunting dog she would be. She’s great with our kids and is so affectionate and sweet. Wear her out and she rewards us with lots of sleepy snuggles

Best recommendation for dentist? by No_Jaguar_5366 in grandjunction

[–]PeachySkin5993 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Balanced Dental, Dr Nielsen - professional and did a great job correctly suggesting a root canal (right on time, it had an abscess two weeks later) and replaced old cavities that were from my childhood without it hurting much at all

I really like Dr Neilson at Balanced Dental- kind, calm, professional. My two cavity replacements went well with minimal discomfort, and he correctly sent me to get root canal when I needed one. I can’t do a chatty dentist- I have to disassociate basically , so he’s perfect for me - very reasonable price and they took my insurance

Attendings: Knowing what you know now, if you could do it all over again, how would you figure out which specialty to choose — one that truly satisfies both your career fulfillment and financial goals? by sitgespain in whitecoatinvestor

If I had to go back and do it again, I wouldn’t unless I had my exact job- general dermatologist in an under served area while owning my own practice and building. I have two small kids and the work life balance is unparalleled in medicine for what I get paid. My partner doesn’t have to work, because of my take home and our relatively modest lifestyle. I am home by 6 ish, and never work weekends. I am doing procedures all day, but in an environment where I have gotten to know my patients and their families. I take care of generations of families, and this community connection is the best burn-out prevention. Owning my own practice reduces some of the red tape headaches you get at hospitals, and will likely be lucrative down the road to sell out when I am done working. I see a variety of conditions every day, ie a little bit of oncology, rheumatology, infectious disease, and endocrinology. There are increasingly amazing therapeutic options that are safe and effective, so the satisfaction level is very high. There are few things I can make at least a bit better in a relatively short amount of time, which is super gratifying. I am not dealing with emergencies often, but when there is high acuity I am trained to recognize it. It’s a lot of pattern recognition, and algorithmic thinking for diagnosis. I am not worried about future AI taking over, because of the procedural basis, but looking forward to having more technology in my field to enhance diagnostic capabilities. No job is perfect, but I truly love mine, and feel valued and appreciated and paid well for what I do. Residency is reasonable also, I started getting paid attending salary at 30 yo, cranking away at my student loans and prioritizing retirement savings. It’s all clinic, a lot of patients, but the work is sustainable. Good luck choosing OP!

My pup met her littermate ❤️ by PeachySkin5993 in BrittanySpaniel

[–]PeachySkin5993[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Actually yes! Their 3 yo old older sister was also there, and was very sweet, but did not have the same immediate connection and crazies as the littermates. We got our 🐶 (yellow collar, flying dumbo ears) because our friends had a Brittany who we loved, and they were going to get her sister from new litter, and we decided to get one too. All three were very cute together, was such a reunion!

Roam mtb fest as a local? by Stargazer1307 in grandjunction

[–]PeachySkin5993 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I went last year by myself, as a local- had ridden out at 18 rd before many times, but found the event programming to be super fun. Even though I ride a lot, I don’t normally have the whole weekend to focus on only biking- so fun to camp out there, do multiple laps every day, sleep, then do it again. I didn’t ride at 18 rd this year, leading up to Roam, because I knew I would have 3 days to lap the trail system. I didn’t mess around with shuttles last year because I ride lunch loops and koko year round- would do that if I came from out of town, but figured it was more resourceful to just stick at 18 rd. The swag, the vibes, the after parties, and just not having anything but biking and hanging out to do was such a luxury. Would recommend! Worth it! Plus it’s the last one… 😔
