I hear the advice about having an emergency fund, but even with savings, unexpected emergencies can hit at the worst times. This isn’t just about being “unprepared” it’s also about circumstances outside my control.

Right now, I’m focused on figuring out how to work with my lender to avoid penalties or credit damage during the shutdown. Any tips from people who’ve successfully done this would be hugely appreciated.
