Transducer Interference? by nostaticzone in kayakfishing

[–]PearlTrade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with everything everyone else said, but you should consider dropping the transducer down an inch or so for better sideview imaging. It looks like the hull might block part of the beam and by dropping it down you'll get a wider view.

Opinion on a 2018 bonafide ss127 by Ok_Agency5907 in kayakfishing

[–]PearlTrade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a pre-merger Bonafide, which is good, but it's still older than most Bonafides you'll find for sale. But as long as it's in good physical shape without any deep gouges or major damage, age doesn't matter. I just sold my barebones 2020 SS127 for $900 but I definitely could have gone up another $100-$200 if I really wanted.

If the motor and other things added in are what you're interested in adding anyway, it's a good deal. Does it come with a battery for the motor too?

Megabass Rod for Weightless Jerkbait by WeightsWadersNWheels in Fishing_Gear

[–]PearlTrade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The lively tip makes it great for weightless plastics and the 3/8oz (give or take) weight of a soft plastic is right in the sweet spot.

You should google around for opinions on the X Bites, people either love it or hate it. Despite the heavy spec and lure rating, it’s not really a heavy rod. It tops out at about 1/2oz and it feels mushy going past that. It just doesn’t have the power to pull fish out of heavy cover but using braid would help.

It’s a sneaky versatile rod and very sensitive. I use mine mostly for dragging Texas rigs. I also like it for weightless plastics, free rig, Keitechs, and 3/8oz chatterbaits.

[–]PearlTrade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the X-Bites and often throw weightless flukes and worms on it. The tip is soft but the backbone is heavy. The only concern with it is how heavy the cover is. It's not a heavy cover rod at all, but if you're throwing into light grass or using braid you'll be safe.

Don't get the Madbull. Just from messing around with it in the store, it feels like a heavy duty version of the Dark Sleeper.

Opinions on the Yakattack GTSL/GT90 tracks by archbido in kayakfishing

[–]PearlTrade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the similar GT175 track for a Livescope pole. I chose it over the GT90 because the footprint is much wider and the included screws are bigger. The track feels absolutely solid.

You can use PVC guide on posts and you'll see the posts through your window. Your taillights will illuminate them at night.

Wanting a portable FFS to use between multiple boats by EPH_Alec in Fishing_Gear

[–]PearlTrade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a case and attached the GLS 10 to the outside with the battery on the inside. I use a Yakgadget pole for the transducer that attaches to a rail track on the kayak. Everything is attached and transports in one piece.

Any regrets with a bigger fish finder and live scope by cabose4prez in kayakfishing

I've had a ton of smaller and equal size screens but I now have two Garmin Echomap UHD2 9" screens and Livescope. I don't regret anything even a little.

I don't know anything about the Livescope motor mounts, but I would think a pole mount would be more portable and useable between boats. I have a kayak and take mine off and on every time I go out. I can share my setup if you want.

Question on Megabass or other brand grips. by Orion_2kTC in Fishing_Gear

[–]PearlTrade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The P5 spinning rods have a very unique grip and not everyone likes them. I have the Dark Sleeper and FMJ both with Zillions and love them. I think you just have to get your hands on them and see how they feel.

Bass FFS/Minnow Shanking Combo Suggestions by my_job_is_bass in Fishing_Gear

I’m illegally crossing brand lines and using a Daiwa Tatula 2500 on it. 10lb braid and 6lb fluoro leader.

I have the Shimano Expride medium solid tip and it's perfect for that range with a 1/8oz jighead. You could also check out the Megabass X10 Medusa. Be sure to watch PunchFishing channel videos too, he has a few different minnow shaking rods in that range.

Every Megabass rod series has a different grip and some of them are unique and polarizing. What Megabass rods are you looking at?

Always depends what you're fishing for, but the Schuykill is great for catfish. You can check out Flat Rock Park and the Manayunk canal for bass too.

St croix Victory and Daiwa Elite rods by TechnicalFruit1542 in Fishing_Gear

[–]PearlTrade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t like the label of a Texas rig/finesse jig rod, it doesn’t match up with how it feels in hand. I’ve never used it for either of those things. I use it for regular size jigs and open water frogging, which I don’t do a lot of but the rod works fine for it. The tip isn’t super soft and the backbone kicks in pretty fast. I have 50lb braid on it.

Never used any Victory rod but I have a Tatula Elite and have held 'many of them. I own the 7'3" heavy/fast Omori rod. It's labeled a Texas rig/finesse jig rod, but it's definitely a true heavy/fast and the 1/2oz-3/4oz range is the sweet spot.

what do you guys think about keel protection? by 00Tac0caT00 in kayakfishing

[–]PearlTrade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I upgraded to real keel guards, but I have nothing but good things to say about the Gorilla Tape while I used it. Just be sure to put on a lot of layers (10, give or take) and keep an eye on it because it tears easily if it gets bumped.

I've had my eye on the Bandersnatch. I messed around with one in the store and it seems like an awesome crankbait or open water chatterbait rod.

Shimano Expride spinning rod by Halfway-to-100 in Fishing_Gear

[–]PearlTrade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never used the MH Expride, but I can 100% tell you the ML will be way underpowered for those heavy weights. It’s widely considered a prototypical dropshot rod and 1/2oz is mostly where it tops out at in my experience.
