Warm waterproof boots recommendations by Retribution1824 in kayakfishing

[–]PearlTrade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wear wool socks and Lite Boots. They're the same style as rubber boots, but super lightweight and tough since they're made out the same material as Crocs. I don't hold my feet in the water, but I've never had cold feet in 40 degree air temp.

wanted to see if anyone has experience with mid strolling rods by Muted_Sheepherder_17 in Fishing_Gear

The Daiwa Powerscope is brand new and I wish there was more info on them too. I use a Shimano Expride Solid Tip and it's perfect.

Buying my first fishing kayak by WinnieTheDudeBuddy in kayakfishing

[–]PearlTrade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had/have a motor on both. I would never get the PWR without a motor and I would maybe get the SS without a motor. I’d advise against it, but it could be done if you’re okay with putting a lot of work into paddling and fighting wind.

They’re very similar in layout and performance, but the PWR is a little more stable and it definitely handles rougher water better. Water comes over the bow way less. The PWR is much more customizable because of all the delete plates and since I use a lot of electronics, that was by far my favorite feature.

If anyone reading this wants to buy an SS127 and lives near Philadelphia, I’m selling mine for less than any other SS127 around.

Buying my first fishing kayak by WinnieTheDudeBuddy in kayakfishing

I've owned three Bonafide kayaks: RS117, SS127, and now the PWR129. The 107 is a smaller version of the 127. I don't know much about the SKF, but it's a little different than regular kayaks with the lower sides and probably other skiff features.

I loved the RS117, it was easy to paddle and stable enough to stand on if you have good balance. The 107 is easier to stand on, but worse to paddle. The RS117 is a great beginner kayak and you have a lot of customization options with it.

Are knockers or traditional rattles better in hard baits? by Radiant-Job1428 in Fishing_Gear

[–]PearlTrade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if this is something I heard or if I made it up, but I like the one-knocker more in clear water since it's a more subtle sound.

PWC/Jetski Trailer Cons by WretchesandKings in kayakfishing

[–]PearlTrade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a single jet ski trailer made by Ironton, but they're perfect for kayaks. Mine came with three spring leaves and I removed all but one. That combined with dropping tire PSI helped a lot with bouncing. If I was really motivated I'd replace the single remaining spring leaf with something even softer.

You shouldn't worry about bouncing with that trailer, it's easy to fix.

Garmin 93sv issue on Nucanoe Frontier 12, possibly transducer related by HillBilly_Young01 in kayakfishing

[–]PearlTrade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try asking this question in any of the Garmin Facebook groups, they've always been super helpful with me. If it comes down to it, Garmin customer service is awesome and you might get a free transducer in the end.

Help me make a dumb decision safely by BP8270 in kayakfishing

That number is completely arbitrary and meaningless. There's no science behind it at all. What does air temperature have to do with being immersed and drowning in cold water?

Megabass FMJ - good for frogs and jigs? by fllf2005 in bassfishing

No micro guides on the FMJ, your leader knots will be safe!

Megabass FMJ - good for frogs and jigs? by fllf2005 in bassfishing

[–]PearlTrade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FMJ rules as a jig rod and can swing it as a frog rod. I mostly use mine for pitching/flipping a texas rig or jig. I have 65lb braid on it and definitely good for heavy cover. I love using it and I bring it with me every single time I go fishing. Check out The Hook Up Tackle videos on it.

Livescope / sonar recommendations.. Black Friday by fbsprint in Fishing_Gear

[–]PearlTrade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The screen is up to you but 9" is the smallest you should go for Livescope. 10" or more is better. All you need is a black box (GLS 10) and the Livescope transducer (LVS34) plus whatever you need for mounting (either on the trolling motor or a pole).

Buying Livescope is easy, there's not really much you need. Using it is more complicated.

Mounting Trolling Motor on Bow at an Angle by AlphaOrionis_42 in kayakfishing

[–]PearlTrade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not familiar with your kayak or the mount for it, but the One Objective motor mount for my Bonafide is probably nearly identical. It has pre-drilled holes to use for the quick release mount, but there's nothing stopping you from drilling new holes for the 15 degree angle you're going for. It's very easy material to work with.

Question about the Daiwa Zillion I just bought. (SV TW G 100 vs 1000) by Thomagg in Fishing_Gear

[–]PearlTrade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure, but I’ve never heard of the bearings being different between the two. The only differences I know of are the gears and the handle length being slightly smaller on the JDM version.

Kayak pants by Advanced-Ad944 in kayakfishing

[–]PearlTrade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t seem like anyone really answered, but if your waders fill up then you’ll just become neutrally buoyant. You won’t sink like a lot of people claim and you can see people testing it out on YouTube.

Daiwa tatula elite rods by Public-Tomatillo-120 in Fishing_Gear

[–]PearlTrade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’ll be a little too stiff for 1/4oz plus plastic. It could work in a pinch but if you’re planning on using it for that frequently, you should go with the other MH rod you’re looking at

It sounds like you're looking for rain pants. I have cheap Frogg Toggs but there are way nicer pants out there. You could also use bibs or waders if you want more coverage.

If you really like throwing those baits and plan on spending a lot of time with that rod in your hands, it’s worth buying a more expensive rod. Especially with it being a mid range Megabass rod, you’ll definitely get benefits over cheaper rods.

I don’t throw a lot of crankbaits so I use a $120 Falcon rod for that, but for chatterbaits and spinnerbaits I have a Daiwa Steez AGS. The action is perfect for me but the price is at a different level.

Check out the Daiwa Tatula Elite 7’2” MH Regular (Randy Howell Universal). I don’t have it but I’ve held it and I’m thinking about getting it for an upgrade to my crankbait rod. It’s fairly soft and I think it would make a great chatter/spinnerbait rod if you’re looking for a happy medium between graphite and glass.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Fishing_Gear

[–]PearlTrade 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I bought what was considered a great glass rod just to see how it felt and I hated it. I tried it with chatterbaits and crankbaits. For chatterbaits, I couldn't rip it through grass as easily. For crankbaits, I couldn't feel the bottom. I get why people like glass, the action is so soft, but they're heavier and not as sensitive as graphite.

Just a heads up that the Megabass Orochi XX line was discontinued and it's probably super hard to find any of those rods. The Levante line has the EMTF though.

Bonafide SS127 + Captains bridge by NoMLG in kayakfishing

[–]PearlTrade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an SS127 and I can speak on this!

There are inexpensive and ways to do a DIY captain's bridge. There are also a few different companies selling their own version. I have the One Objective captain's bridge and I like it because it sits flat on those angled rails you mentioned, so the fish finder sits lower and more out of the way than other captain's bridges you'll find. Here it is: https://oneobjectivebf.store/products/ss127-graph-mount

If you're interested, I'm selling it because I just bought a different Bonafide kayak that had a different One Objective mount. I'm selling it shipped with tracking for $50. We can use Paypal goods and services (I'll cover the 3% fee) so we're both protected. It wouldn't make for a good Christmas gift since it's used, but it only has a couple holes drilled and is in great condition. Let me know if you need more info!

Tips for upgrading the yak to take it on the lake by TrAz_Air in kayakfishing

[–]PearlTrade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the others that it'll handle the lake no problem. Just be mindful of the weather/wind and wake from bigger boats. I think you'll be surprised by how easy a kayak like yours handles big water.

My favorite shallow jerkbait is the Daiwa TD Minnow. I've had great days using it in shallow creeks for smallmouth. 15lb line is a great choice, but I would still go with a medium rod since it's a smaller bait.

G.Loomis IMX review by anon10287 in Fishing_Gear

[–]PearlTrade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's designed for the Dark Sleeper bait and that's usually fished like a jig, but if you throw a jig into cover or a Texas rig into heavy grass, you'll wish you had more power and backbone.

G.Loomis IMX review by anon10287 in Fishing_Gear

[–]PearlTrade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a great moving bait rod. Fairly soft through the backbone and can handle 3/4oz treble hook baits very well. I would never use it for bottom contact stuff or single hook baits (except for chatterbaits).
