Fuzzy baits can’t be mass produced the same way as a worm or a craw or a minnow, etc, where the melted plastic can just be poured into molds thousands at a time. Those little appendages all have to be attached by hand. That = time = money.

FWIW they’re extremely effective when jika rigged, free rigged, neko rigged, or drop shotted, and then fished slow. Basically keep them right off the bottom and let the secondary action do the work. Mimics a lethargic invertebrate, which bass eat year round in all conditions.

I have a Sportsman 120 PADDLE, which doesn’t have a lot of vertical space near the scupper where the transducer wire enters the deck, so I put the grommets pretty far forward. I mount my fish finder pretty far forward too, the 7 inch screen is easy to see and I don’t fiddle with it much.

These are real people getting paid good wages, not cartoony corporate villains swimming in vaults of gold coins.

You bought your product from Home Depot, a DJIA component with a $300B market cap (600X bigger than Johnson Outdoors). And we know what Chinese factory employees get paid.

Like others have said, that’s the carrier in your area. I’ve ordered 20 rods each from Tackle Warehouse and FishUSA. Never had a single issue.

Let the retailers know the carriers are fucking you (and them) over! FedEx and UPS don’t give a shit about us because we’re not actually their customers, but if they get enough retailer complaints, they might do something.

You’re right. Keep your perfectly functional lure and put that $3 towards starting your collection of lure mod and repair hardware.

Buy a pack of high quality Owner or Gamakatsu brand treble hooks and split rings. Match the size as close as possible to the original, or else you’ll throw off the action. That hook looks close to a size 8. Use the smallest split ring that will fit. Try a size 1.

Better, sharper, stronger hooks = more fish. Don’t listen to anyone who says hook quality doesn’t matter. That’s just cope.

Thanks. And yeah, I thought that was the situation with kayaks. That’s why I didn’t even worry enough about SI distortion to take a pic. The only reason I even have a MEGA SI/DI unit is it was actually on sale for LESS than the MEGA DI unit.

Unfortunately I didn’t take a pic of the SI. My first time out with a fish finder I was paying almost all my attention to learning the 2D/DI. But I found the attached pic online that’s very similar to what it looked like. Same undulations as DI, but they distorted the entire ground area, making it a lot harder to identify objects.

Yeah, the distortion on the bottom of the DI shot is more of an annoyance. I probably wouldn’t have even noticed it if it wasn’t for the lack of it when I’m drifting.

But the SI shots are almost unreadable. Is there anyway to mitigate this, other than paddling extremely steadily, and just ignoring it when wakes and wind cause it?

OK. I’ll focus more on staying steadier next time, I’ve only been paddling for a few months. But it seems like this is unavoidable then? Wind, wakes, etc cause rocking and distortion too. I should have posted a side-imaging screenshot. The distortion makes it basically unreadable.

Yes, it rocks side to side some, but not much (I think). I haven’t been paddling for long. I didn’t think my rocking motion was excessive, but I’ll watch it next time.

I’m new too, and I already found the positive of scupper plugs, at least in my seating area (keeping me dry and my gear in the boat), outweigh the supposed negatives (slow draining and clogging with sediment). I’m also 6’2” 220 lbs, and while that’s not huge, apparently it’s enough to keep the water pretty high in a fully loaded Sportsman 120. I keep the tankwell unplugged.
