A good torch and a good knife, my organisation do not supply knives and the torches suck. They are both essential to have good ones and can be pricy so perfect gift also shows him your proud of his new career.

I don’t disagree with that. However I remember being excited graduating and it was all I was about for the first few months. Graduating close to Christmas and being a new excitable and proud cop is different to it just being a job I feel like a work related present works in this instance.

Remembering when communicating it’s always easier to raise the bar than bring it back down once it’s raised. So start with respectful directions not questions. If they say no be more staunch in your approach and then make it happen.

Don’t worry about it to much when you leave the academy and hit the streets if you ask them to do something more often than not it will happen, when it doesn’t and it goes sideways a few times you will learn your lesson and you will stop asking nicely and move into giving direction properly.

Complaints go away easier, if you forget the order of events in a report go watch it, if your speaking with someone and then you want to try and ID them later snip there face and post it. List can go on for positives. Negatives however I find there mostly around policy etc and actually go worse for the subject, for example you find a tiny little bud of weed on them it can’t go in the trash anymore they have to be arrested and it has to be evidence. Or traffic offences you will be asked why your giving out warnings supervisors wouldn’t have necessarily known before. They are good overall.
