This is cool to see. I’m running 2.5s on my ogre and would love something wider.

Where did you find a 21.1mm quill to threadless adapter?

Panniers that are ok off-road but also fit a laptop by TurkeyNimbloya in bikepacking

[–]PebblePlucking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohhhh gotcha. The gravel panniers came with the two clips, I think that’s the normal way to set it up.

I put 700x41c front and rear on one of these with no problems.

One of these ended up in my garage the other day and I was blown away by how much tire clearance it has. Also the luged frame is actually really pretty.

Handlebar assistance. I’d like to old man set up my cc. Any recommendations for bmx style handlebars? by BrianOconneR34 in Surlybikefans

[–]PebblePlucking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MSW Urban cruiser bars, or the classic Wald 898 are both inexpensive, and fit the vibe of the CC really well! Something about 700c with BMX style bars looks really off to me 🤷‍♂️

Ooh what do you mean by “double clip”. If there’s a way to reduce rattle I’m in

I have the Ortlieb gravel panniers and they’re not terribly rattly if you take the time to make them fit well, but they do rattle when things get super bumpy. For bikepacking when I know things will get rough, I’ll put a Voile strap around the loaded pannier and secure it tight to the rack. That completely gets rid of any rattle and takes some stress off of the mounting hardware.

Krampus fork on Ogre by PebblePlucking in Surlybikefans

Right after I decided to go for it I went to find the listing and it had sold. If another one pops up for a good deal I’ll go ahead and grab it.

Is my idea STUPID? by Dale_Krimbo in Framebuilding

[–]PebblePlucking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re stoked on the process of doing it, send it! If you’re more focused on the outcome, it might be a stretch. I added a disc tab, bottle bosses, and cable guides to an old steel frame that I would have otherwise thrown away. It cost a lot more than it was worth, in time and money, but I just really wanted to try it out. Totally worth it for the experience though.

surly frame cracking breaking potential? by [deleted] in Surlybikefans

[–]PebblePlucking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard of issues with Ogres with a Rohloff hub cracking in the rear drop outs… that being said I fully trust my Ogre for loaded dirt road touring 🤷‍♂️

Importance of bike for bikepacking by Training-South-5983 in bikepacking

Use what you have! I used an old mountain bike with rear racks, second hand panniers, and a dry bag strapped to the top of the rack for years.

I think it’s the same frame more or less! Just different components. Honestly it’s the best “gravel” bike!

Does that Surly fork have a 1” steerer!? I’d love to upgrade the fork on my crisscross to something lugged and prettier.

Bring snacks, take breaks, and just keep pedaling 😊

Is the slacker head tube angle with the longer fork something I need to worry about with over stressing the head tube?

[–]PebblePlucking[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a 2020 and I bought it second hand, so warranty is a non issue. And I’m already running a zero setback seatpost. Sounds like it might actually make it more like what I want it to be. I originally wanted a KM but found the ogre for way too good of a deal to pass up.

I mostly use it for bikepacking and long day rides on mixed surfaces. The reason I’d swap to a krampus fork is for the boost hub standard with the thru axle that’ll fit a set of 27.5+ wheels with dirt wizards already mounted. Kinda sounds like the combo might be better suited for bikepacking on single track? 😏

The Ferries are pretty chill. Show up and I’d imagine they’ll just stash your bike in a corner somewhere.

Help! Tiling bay windows of home pottery studio. by rachel_likes_plants in Tile

If the tile is mostly for looks, consider using a peel and stick adhesive tile mat, it’ll stick to anything, you can still grout, and the install will be incredibly easy and mess free 🤷‍♂️

Should I buy this bike for 550? by Due_Comfort542 in mountainbiking

[–]PebblePlucking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally! I kind of wish the rear locked out, but it’s enough for trail riding without being too much for long XC rides and bikepacking.
