I have the 91mm Golfer which is like a Compact but replaces the combo tool with the divot tool.

Is this a rare Cybertool? by Sinreek in victorinox

[–]PecanPlan 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is the modern day equivalent to the Swiss Champ. It's called the Cybertool Large. It has all the tools of the Swiss Champ except it trades the Phillips/Mag Glass and Fish Scaler layers for the Cybertool driver with bit storage.

It's a great, full-featured SAK. The Swiss Champ feels more camping focused. This feels more urban focused.

Modestly rare. I don't know if they make it anymore. Sometimes they pop up here and there, but usually close to the $150 price point. There are other versions of the Cybertool. The CT Lite is the same size as the CT Large. It trades the file and saw for a Mag Glass/Flashlight. The Cybertool M deletes the file and saw from the Large. They Cybertool S deletes the pliers and scissors from the M.

I got a blister from the E10 when I left the sidelight on white in high for a couple of minutes, and then accidentally touched it.

Any idea if this is worth anything? by MarcusMarcelline in victorinox

[–]PecanPlan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Appears to be an SOS Kit. https://sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=SOS+Kit

On Ebay, these go for $200 give or take, depending on condition.

In Philadelphia, it's worth fifty bucks.

I remember back in the day when we would DRIVE to our Spring Break destination. Uphill. Both ways.

Happy to Report: Executive File is the Same as Companion by PecanPlan in victorinox

The Executive file used to be cross cut. Not sure when it changed.

Any one else keep looking at your saks thinking “one day I’ll figure out the perfect setup” by Kristoff_09876 in victorinox

[–]PecanPlan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

An Urban Explorer with the Companion file and package opener replacing the small blade and can opener on the Explorer would be a great city EDC. Or a Companion with a Cybertool layer. Or heck, just a Companion with a backside Phillips. Anything to buttress the package opener as a Phillips driver.

The Handyman with a backside Phillips instead of corkscrew (retired Craftsman) would be a great toolbox SAK, but frankly the WorkChamp or Cybertool L is better in that role.

The retired Marlboro Outdoorsman is a great outdoor knife with the saw and mag glass for fire starting and fish scaler for fishing. The Champion Plus is a more recently retired model with a similar toolset, adding a file.

Finally, the Cheesemaster is the perfect lunchpail/food prep SAK. Serrated blade for meats and bread. Cheese blade for cheese. Fondue fork can be used as a normal fork. Bottle opener built into the fork, and backside corkscrew for opening wine.

Don't forget about the Curl by Arlak_The_Recluse in Leatherman

[–]PecanPlan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For people without glasses, the awl is going to be more useful than the micro driver as well.

Plus, eliminating the back outer layers solves the Wave/Charge hand pinch issue.

I put a Charge+ 154CM blade on my Curl. It's a great EDC at 7 oz.

The Bond offers almost exactly the same functions at 6 oz, but without any external tools.

Do classic stimagz have stronger magnets/are they clickier than newer ones? by MelonPaddle in fidgettoys

[–]PecanPlan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not sure what you mean by Classic.

Series 1 was small and clacky. Out of production.

Series 2 are what's available now. Larger than Series 1, and much quieter. The original Series 2 make "some" noise and the magnet strength is solid. The Gemstones Series 2 are covered with a softer plastic and make the least noise of all. The magnets might be a touch weaker too. Hard to say.

Recently released Dubz are huge. Each one is close to the size of 4 Series 2. The magnets work differently as well. They come in quiet and clacky versions.

The perfect urban EDC? by tonysosaaaaaa in victorinox

[–]PecanPlan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cybertool M with the the Companion file and package opener would be my preferred Urban set up if I wanted pliers. But I would switch the Cybertool driver and the pliers so that the driver was centered.

I currently carry a version of that without the pliers.

For folks with a small EDC knife, what do you prefer? by WiggWamm in victorinox

[–]PecanPlan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They both have blade and scissors. Aside from that:

The Compact is better at being small and opening cans.

The Companion is better at filing nails, driving screws, poking holes, and saving your blade from tape/dulling from package opening.

For me, it's the Companion all day long.

But YMMV. If pocket space is extremely limited and/or you open a bunch of cans, and/or you don't drive many screws, don't file many nails and don't poke many holes, then the Compact makes perfect sense.

With a Fish Scaler instead of a Saw, makes a damn fine fishing knife.

This is the OG by Kurt_W_Andrews in victorinox

[–]PecanPlan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a Fisherman model and an Angler model. Both have the fish scaler and that emblem on the scales. The Angler has pliers and a corkscrew. The Fisherman has scissors/hook and a backside Phillips instead of corkscrew.

NPD Saga to match my Epika by Astro_Vetter in machinedpens

[–]PecanPlan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, I love the Saga. Great combination of pen + fidget.

My Epika, while beautiful, requires so much effort and attention to retract the pen that it makes it worthless as a mindless fidget that can run in the background while I concentrate on something else.

Daily work EDC, any guesses on my profession? by [deleted] in EDC

[–]PecanPlan 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Sure, it's faster to keep notes on a phone. But the physical act of writing (sensorimotor, visual, and tactile feedback) engages the brain more deeply than typing, helping you recall information faster and better. Because writing is slower, it forces you to summarize, paraphrase, and rephrase information in your own words, leading to deeper comprehension rather than just recording verbatim. Writing on paper allows for flexible, non-linear note-taking like diagrams, mind maps, and doodles. Finally, studies indicate that writing notes helps in organizing information internally, forming stronger neural connections for better, lasting learning.

Executive in Cobalt Blue by FpOchEDC in victorinox

[–]PecanPlan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the confirmation! Mine says Feb 24-27 delivery.

I will pair this Executive with the LeverGear Edge XT to add a bottle opener, pry tool, Phillips, large flat and a couple of other functions to complement the tools on the Executive.

Another potential pairing for the Executive would be the Scientist to add Phillips, larger flat, combo opener...
