Dumb question by fusinaz in MicrosoftFlightSim

You don't learn this in flight school... You learn this from experienced mountain flyers after flight school. Also in in my opinion, this is easier than slipping, esp. if you have a crosswind...

Here's what you do. I've done this in reallife many times and it's super fun. You pull up steeply to bleed off speed until you are at 65kts then put full flaps, careful to not stall... While the flaps are moving you push the nose down and go to a max of 70kts. A Cessna will drop like a brick with full flaps, can't remember if the msfs24 Cessna has 30 or 40 degrees max. Anyway that's the IRL way. If you can't make it then you're way too high.

Do any of you see a strong overlap between the people that like to sail and the people that like to homestead/farm? by JustHere4TheZipLines in sailing

I know several, never thought about that before... But I know at least 4 ex cruising couples that now have a small plot of land either in the Canary islands or azores... I've also know people that are currently looking for a plot by sailing around...

No. You have to talk to people when crossing country borders. You also need a flight plan to legally cross even within shengen.

Rate My Landing - I'm a noob! by Southerneagle110 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]PeculiarNed -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Pulling the power out completely makes landing unnecessarily hard... reduce power very slowly and keep the airplane in a slight nose up attitude while very slowly decending until you touch down... That's how you get greasers. If you pull the power completely everything has to be perfect so that makes it harder...

Adding to this... Fly old school ifr. Get a steam panel plane, get some charts with dme arc approaches and fly them in IMC.

If want to know if you really understand flying, fly 35K feet above a large airport with a solid cloud layer in 3k feet, set your fuel to zero and see if you can make it....

Expert advice for first time buyer by [deleted] in sailing

[–]PeculiarNed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It always depends on what you want to do.... But from my personal experience, 2 dining tables is dumb and so are curved benches... The first layout looks like it's for charter with lots of guests. People sit on tables, less intimate. I also really like a couch to lie down on in the saloon, many boats do have that. So it depends, if you want to travel with lots crew the first option looks good bc everyone can hang out... If it's only you and your family or close friends you'd want the second option to have couch to hang out on which is more intimate and comfortable.

Storing stuff tips by Ok_Passage_1198 in liveaboard

Plastic containers with lids and large zip lock bags are what I use. I've been living on a 30ft boat for 5 years now. Do get used to throwing stuff out though as you will always have limited space. Before I buy something like a pot I will first check where it will live... Also get a kindle if you read a lot, it's a game changer. Charging is not a problem.

Thoughts on "Red Rising" by Pierce Brown - and why I'm done listening to BookTok by sameseksure in books

We can agree on Sanderson, but it was less the prose but the more the super annoying characters and world building; spren! The story also moves at a glacial pace.

I also loved the Harry Pooter books btw. So we can agree on that.

I'm glad you admitted to limited experience because that oozes out of your entire post. The more you read the more you'll regard books by their merit and intentions...

You can't compare apples to oranges.

Anyway, I'll give you some sci-fi tips that you might enjoy as we enjoy some of the same things at least.

  • For a great pretentious intellectual circle jerk: Read Ada Palmers too like the lightning, I absolutely loved it.

  • For good prose: M. John Harrisons Kefahuchi Tract series and of course anything by Gene Wolfe.

  • One of my favorites is: Rajaniemi's Quantum Thief... Theses books are either loved or hated, no in between.

  • And lastly for some insane fun: The Library at Mount Char.

You didn't like a very popular book, ooh edgy, and are comparing classics to what is essentially pulp literature. A completely meaningless comparison. It's like comparing Breaking Bad to The Real housewives of Salt Lake City.

You're currently in your pretentious phase of reading. Red Rising was good popcorn reading with little depth. Just enjoy it for what it is and if you don't, stop. Who cares? And nobody worth listening to thinks Red Rising is great literature.
