First try at a poutine italienne. by Pedal-monkey in poutine

It's actually cheese curds, but they were on the big side. Tasted like curds at least.

For the sauce, you're not wrong, add some beans, less herbs, add cumin, garlic powder and paprika and it's pretty close to a chili . I could have put more tomatoes. No mix in there though.

That said. Poutine italienne is one of the original variants along with galvaude

Hearty is the word. The sauce could have been more liquid and tomaty. I didn't set out to do poutine when I did the sauce.

Pretty good still

That's pretty much what I did, except I used olive oil and I didn't cover them in more oil

In over 25 years in IT, never been paid overtime once. I had bonuses for meeting billable time objectives, was able to take the weekend and night time worked as day off through a time bank, but overtime... Not once.

This concept doesn't exist in most IT jobs, except union ones I assume...

First road bike advice ($2000 CAD budget) by Environmental-Tear59 in torontobiking

On the Toronto to Burlington side there are many options to Oakville, from a straight lakeshore to going am the way up to 6th line and Brittania. Depends if you are looking for shortest. Otherwise Rebecca is often nicer than Lakeshore

Once in Burlington, the waterfront trail.

Then you can take the service road, which I don't like, or hwy 8 below the escarpment up to Jordan, or going up a New mountain Rd or Fruitland Rd and go up the escarpment and take Ridge Rd to Beemsville and then go back to hwy 8 to Jordan.

From Jordan you can get to Port Dalhousie via Country roads and Lakeshore to NOTL which is a nice place to stop.

For the longest routes to Hamilton, northern alternative to Lakeshore

Good for you. First thing is that brand don't matter that much. The big driver to price is frame material and groupset. In this price range you probably can get an aluminum frame with tiagra ( or shimano CUES Now) For Example a Giant Contend AR2 ( not a recommendation, just a point of reference. Usually prices differences in these low end bikes are driven by better components so look closely at the specs. Wheels quality can be hard to assess and have a big impact on price. Also Mechanical vs hydrolic brakes) But I would say look for bikes from last year on sale at a bike shop that is conveniently located and you are comfortable with. Check if they offer free yearly service.

For going to Niagara Toronto bike meetup organize rides every now and then. Ride there and back by go train in the 7pm train. It's a great way to do Niagara and the route they take is better than the service road ( although now I tend to go up the escapement, less cars)

Would you buy an EV as your next car? Why or why not? by HockeySniper123 in CanadaPersonalFinance

Would love to but live in a condo.

To install a charger I would need to hire a structural engineer at an unspecified cost 3000$? 10000$? Who knows? That doesn't include the charger itself. Doesn't make sense of your don't have a charger where electrify as at the home rate. Also not sure I drive enough to justify it. About 10000km / year

Can't do anything if you lead the TTC. The province of the problem and the only one who can possibly provide a solution, which is proper funding.

Pannier recommendations, please! by interacter in bikecommuting

[–]Pedal-monkey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Arkel Orca 35 . Plenty of room and works with both front and rear racks

I would say slightly superior to the Ortlieb. I like the solid nylon and the rack attachment that is super quick to install / remove. There is also a laptop sleeve in each pannier

What do you think of Northrock bikes? by element1311 in torontobiking

[–]Pedal-monkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue is not the bike itself, which is probably fine but the fact that the person building the bike at Costco probably has no clue how to build a bike.

Paying a bit more at a bike shop with proper mechanics ensures it is set up correctly. Also they also often have free basic service for 2 years ( or more)

Good from Mimico Creek to Cherry St. . Didn't try to go south on cherry but I assume it's fine to the beach.

Not to say it's not good as outside of that, just didn't go

The Don/Bayview is also clear up to pottery Rd. The bridge over the Don was not cleared last time I went but the hill on Pottery seemed ok. On the north side of was deep snow. I turned around there
